Moon being exiled to the CFL for 6 of his most formidable years had something to do with that. He had one NFL team that wanted him to convert to TE because they couldn't take a black QB, but he said he wasn't athletic enough or good at anything other than throwing the football.

And all he did in the CFL is win 5 straight grey cups while he dominated the league until the Oilers brought him in.
This was pretty much my thought on this as well. NFL owners at the time wanted no part of a black QB dominating the league and weren't going to take any chances. I watched Moon in those CFL days and he was spectacular. We will never know what he could have done at the NFL level had he been given the chance with a decent team. Kelly will always have that "played on great teams" thing as well but he often came up light in the big show. Not sure that's all on him because those Bills ran into a very dominant NFC at the time. But I will take Moon over Kelly.

Warren Moon was 3-7 in the postseason while Kelly was an postseason interception king. In the 1991 postseason alone Kelly threw 9 picks in 3 games.

Kelly was 3rd all time in postseason picks in just 17 games. Marino played one more postseason game than Kelly but threw for 11 more TDs.

I rather have Moon and could imagine whst he could fo on that talented Buffalo squad

Moon but simply based upon longevity. I don't think he was much, if at all, better than Kelly.

I think Warren Moon was better than a lot of our heros.
If he would have been able to start his career in the NFL. He would be compared with Marino. Who I think is also one of the best passers of all time.
Moon and Marino had elite arm talent I agree. .they threw lasers into tight windows. Moon seemed to throw a perfect spiral every time. Nobody could get to Marino due to the quick release.

Kelly had a higher career QBR than Moon 84.4 to 80.9. However, Moon's QBR improved in the post-season to 84.9. Kelly's decreased to 72.3.

Umm, those Houston offenses were stacked.

All your stat shows is that throwing INT's in the postseason didn't detract the all-time great QB's from being all-time great QB's.

Postseasons are where legends are made, nobody is calling Brady the goat if he never won a Super Bowl.

Voted Moon just off memory.

Those Bills teams were awesome, though.

4 straight Super Bowls wins it for Kelly IMO. No other QB in history has been to 4 straight.

Losing time to other leagues isn't solely in favor of Moon, with Kelly in the USFL prior to the Bills.

Kelly was a big reason for those "strong teams". Bills were 2-14 the year before he arrived, climbed to 12-4 within 3 seasons.

kelly was good... and good enough to bring his team to 4 SB in a row... but Moon was better in every single aspect...

the odd thing is, Moon even has longevity over Kelly, even though Kelly started at 26, and Moon at 28...

Anybody calling Houston's offense stacked, probably has a little too much Tecmo Super Bowl nostalgia stuck in their head.

As a Viking fan, I cant think of a better comparison to Moon than Kirk Cousins.

I doubt people however will remember them the same just because Cousins played during a time where there was more national coverage of all football.

But the two had almost identical strengths and weaknesses.

Their skill players were solid but not great. But they had not one but two HOFer's on their OL. OL play didnt really effect Tecmo.

Was one of the best interior OL's in the history of the NFL.

And he did everything in his power to blow those games by hucking interception after interception. 6 turnovers against the Washington Redskins. I know Warren Moon was Captain Fumble as well, but jeebus. Kelly made it easy on those D coordinators.

If you don't think Givins, Hill, Duncan & Jeffires, with Lorenzo White in the backfield, and a very good OL, was a stacked offense, I don't know what to tell you.
