Thanks guys! So far:
*Rome is f'n crazy! People driving cars through crowds of people down small side streets is totally common.
*Architecture is spectacular
*Food is even better!
*Vatican is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.
Great time so far!
It sounds like one of our forum members is soaking up culture. This is unacceptable! We are a beer swilling-McDonalds eating group of folks. Soon, Jake will only drink fine vintage wines, speak latin and will turn up his nose at Seattle's so called Italian restaurants.
Threw coins in the fountain (even though it was currently empty of water), ate Pizza Bianca (and many other great dishes), and soaked up lot's of "culture" (don't worry, it quickly dissipated).
Walked about an average of 13 miles a day in 85-99 degree heat (37.5 C was the highest I saw) and still managed to gain two pounds by eating all that great pasta!
Just got back from a 7 State Tour of the South. ( 11 days)
4 days in NC, 5 in New Orleans. Great Time.
Stopped by the campus of Clemson and Bama. Both VERY VERY beautiful.
Went to a Braves game, stadium reminded me of a State Fairground. Nothing Special.
Overall Great Trip. Pisgah National Forest in NC had some cool waterfalls.
Rome is awesome. I went in college on tour with the jazz big band. Walked out some random alley right into the Trevi. Didn't even know where we were going. It's incredible to be among so many historical things and people just go about their day like any other. Architecture, art, just the sheer history that that place has been a part of is hard to take in.
I'll say the Vatican, while amazing, is almost too much. It's sensory overload with so much intricate and important art in every corner of the place. Then you walk in the Sistene Chapel and you're like "Oh, ok. Now I get art"
Did you get to go anywhere else in Italy? Florence is cool for a day but Venice is an absolute must. Might be my favorite city in the world. It's incredible.
