We have been more than patient it’s time to move on
I get your thoughts but I don’t agree.
He was hit by a pitch and broke his jaw
Then hit by a pitch and broke his forearm.
Bad luck.
He had a mid .800 OPS in 2019
.700s in a struggling start this year before being injured.
He will make a good DH/LF
His 2019 #s over 80 games equate to 41 HR and 100 RBI in 162 games or 37 HR 85 RBI over 145 games. He is also entering into his last 3 years at age 27-29. Usually the most productive.
I think it would be a mistake to let him go.
Even if he can hit .750-.815 with 25-30 HRs that would be nice.

I don't think it's time to give up on Willie, but I also don't think he's ever gonna be a 30/100 guy

i understand but in 5 seasons he's played in 219 games out of a potential 810 games. we've have and are considering cutting loose other players who have had less opportunity so as i said time to move on

Hitting 100 RBI might be tough but I think he can hit 30 HR if can stay healthy

He played in 132 games in 2016, 141 games in 2017, 143 games in 2018 and 124 games in 2019.
And then broke his jaw spring training 2020 by hbp
Broke forearm 2021 by HBP
Bad luck..that’s about all.

It would be ridiculous to move on from him because he was hit in the face and forearm by pitches. That reminds me of those ridiculous claims that Pudge was becoming injury prone after he was injured on a backswing.

We have him. His name is Adolis Garcia.
Adolis is tied for 2nd (w/Gallo) in OF assist with 12
Renfroe leads with 16, but Boston always has high OF assist bc of their ball park.
Renfroe hits a HR every 16.5 AB
Adolis every 17 AB

we pretty much do have our own hunter renfroe lol
Adolis has better speed and range in the outfield though. Leading to a much higher value on his defense.
Adolis is the better player. Atleast in 2021

The Mets are rumored to be interested in Jon Daniels making a lateral move. I wonder what kind of deal we could work out.

IMO things have looked better since Young came on board. Any reasonable deal is warranted.

Minor leagues as well. Shows overall ability to stay healthy before these two freak bad luck incidents.

we are talking about someone who can't stay healthy on the ML roster and has occupied a 40-man roster spot for 5 years. if this was any other player on the roster everyone would be calling for him to go

Yeah if it was due to constant issues like pulling hamstrings, or elbow injuries or ankle problems or something like that.
He’s a different case.
This is due to Bad Luck! I wouldn’t assume he will get hit and be sidelined for months at a time every single year.
2017 was a cup of coffee
2018 & 2019 was his introduction to the MLB and he did great in 2019 once called up after playing 40+ games in the minors
2020 was a bs year for everything. Broken jaw
2021 broke his arm
2022-2024 he could very well be one of our better hitters.

It does seem that way. Maybe he is injury prone? I dont know
But if he can produce when healthy and be replaced on the roster when not, I don’t see any harm in keeping him.
he could miss 3 months next year too.. who knows? But his spot becomes available on the 40 man when they go on the 60 day.
Probably wouldn’t even be needed though.
