Final year of Scheffler's AND Pettigrew's deal. After the idiotic contract the dumbass Rams gave Jared Cook its going to be expensive to keep just Pettigrew.

Pettigrew doesn't have nearly the athleticism of a Jared Cook. No way his contract is anywhere close to that.

Pettigrew doesn't have nearly the athleticism of a Jared Cook. No way his contract is anywhere close to that.

NFL contracts aren't handed out on athleticism, they're based on production, and in that department Pettigrew blows Cook out of the water. They've both been in the league for four years and Pettigrew has 112 more receptions, 700 more yards and six more TDs.

Where Cook shines is in his career YPC, which outpaces Pettigrew's by over 3 yards.

Basically they're two very different TEs. Pettigrew is a big in-line TE, Cook is an athletic "move" or "joker" TE. Trying to compare the two is apples to oranges to an extent. It's like comparing a CB with a nickel back, or a WR and a slot WR- same position on paper, but very different responsibilities beyond that.

Where Pettigrew is of the most value, and where he doesn't get enough credit, imo, is in his blocking ability. He's among a small handful of the best two-way TEs in the league. There are TEs who are better blockers, and there are TEs who are better receivers, but there are very few who do both as well as Pettigrew does.

And for as much flak as he gets around here for all his drops, he's right on par with most other starting TEs around the league in drop percentage. He simply doesn't drop as many balls as many like to make it seem. His fumbles, though, are a legit problem, there's no excuse for his poor ball security.

All in all though he's a much better TE than he gets credit for on this board, and is the best TE on our roster. If we want to replace one of our two starting TEs Scheffler would get my vote- he's our receiving TE and with the rise in league-wide talent at his position I'd be looking for a young, fast, athletic (basically a Jared Cook type) kid to take his spot next year. Pettigrew is very good in his role and would be hard to replace...

I thought you'd gone mad TPaul. But then you got to the fumbles. Which are an issue to say the least. So much so that its made him a liability at times. (Paragraph) BP is much more of a factor in the run game, than in the pass game. Which i honestly believe was the intent when he was drafted. He'll be big this year for sure, with a pair of first year starting tackles. Even when he's receiving, it's basically aerialground game usage.

Yeah, he's far more of a possession receiver than a down-field weapon, that's for sure.

That being said he's a far better athlete and route runner than most blocking TEs. He's good at what he does, but his role isn't that of a Jimmy Graham or Tony Gonzales. I do feel like he should be a better red zone option, though, especially on play-action...

I think so too, being that short yardage situations are his forte. Maybe with Bush we'll see lb's pay more attention to the flats, leaving BP a place to settle down in and "get big". (paragraph)If you think about the Tight Ends around the league who are widely considered "better", you'd have a hard time convincing me that more than two have anywhere near the impact on pass protection. (I know, I know, he's not a lineman). And I'd like to think that after this season the same could be said about him as a run blocker.

I think that it is worth noting that Pettigrew had 1 fumble(0 lost) in his first three years. Last year he fumbled 4 times and lost 2. So he did struggle last year with fumbles, but for 75% of his career it has not been a problem. I am hoping that last year was just a bad year and he returns to his old ways.

Pettigrew is WAY better than the overrated, under performing Jared Cook. The Rams have had to hand out big contracts to several of their FA's, because they're the Rams (the Lions have been there, done that too). But, by no means do the Rams set the market price for players. If that was the case, Chris Houston would have cost us an arm and a leg based on what the Rams paid Cortland Finnegan. That's just one of many examples.

Jared Cook >>> Brandon Pettigrew. Forget about the stats. Just watch them play.

Cook is a weapon. Pettigrew is a liability.

So, Pettigrew should be given credit for his blocking, which I neglected to do. He is certainly more of a blocker than Cook is. While Cook is still better, I'd give him a ">" instead of a ">>>"

If cook was such a weapon it doesn't seem like Pettigrew would have almost twice the TDs... Sounds like an instance of one guy's potential bumping him up higher than he deserves...

Normally I totally agree with eye balls over stats, and my eye balls have made me worry about drops and fumbles almost 100% of the time. But I don't really see Cook as a guy who makes your team any better than BP does.(My minds eye sees the number 171) They are labelled at the same position, but they aren't doing the same thing out there. Pros and Cons aside, you switch em out for each other a lot of things would drastically change. If you think it'd be drastically better with Cook, I'd love to hear why. Maybe my eyeballs have been missing something. They spend a lot of time looking at this phone.

This is why we need an smiley of someone shooting heroin directly into their own eye ball.

Cook would be a replacement for Scheffler in our offense, not Pettigrew.

Right now I'd trade Scheffler for a Bangkok whore and a half dozen packages of pop rocks.
