Looks like Fauria is going to make it. Same for Steven Miller. Corey Fuller not so much and could get pushed back to the practice squad.

Still hoping for Kickalicious to make the team.

I wouldn't jump the gun and call for any of the bubble guys to make it or not make it this early. We haven't played any of the 4 preseason games yet, let's see how these kids do in live action first.

I agree that Fuller may get forced out in a numbers game, and hopefully if that's the case we can sneak him onto the practice squad...

I should go back to the trade Scheffler thread. The Ravens are desperate!!!! They don't have a TE problem they have a TE nightmare right now. Makes me feel better about Pettigrew.

The Lions have some flexibility this training camp so I could see a trade or a surprise cut. Fauria doesn't make it through waivers to the practice squad IMO so keep him or understand he is gone.

Miller probably makes it to the practice squad due to RB depth league wise.

The WR battle is the one I find most interesting.

I'd be dangling Scheff to them, the Patriots and the Broncos, who also lost their starting TE for the year. All three are Super Bowl caliber teams in desperate need of a TE, so if Fauria is good enough to make Scheffler expendable then we should try to re-coup our 5th rounder we spent on him a few years ago. Maybe even package a 6th with Scheff for a 4th in return...

NO. Keep all of our TE's, The wave of the future is lining up with multiple TE's, 2,3 even 4 at a time. Even Dallas was doing into the other night. The Pats started the trend and the Lions soon followed. Keep Sheffler, keep Pettigrew, keep Fauria! Keep all of them! The Lions are in no position to trade away red zone, pass catching threats. Some of you guys are draft pick drunks! Ya'll have a problem! :nono:

If we keep 4 TEs who do we cut at WR or RB? We're already looking at 6 deserving RBs and anywhere from 7 to 10 WRs in the mix.

We're going to be cutting a handful of pretty talented young guys. Hopefully we can sneak most of them onto the practice squad...

TE are way more important than RB and WR's in the new NFL. WR's are a dime a dozen. Good TE's are worth their weight in gold right now.

The Lions have CJ, Pettigrew, Bush, Broyles, and Burleson. Only so many balls to go around and with Fauria showing well Scheff is expendable. I would hate to lose a young guy like Williams or Fauria because we are hoping for the status quo out of Scheffler.

I agree that TEs are far more important than they were ten years ago, but not more so than WRs and/or RBs, imo.

If WRs were a dime a dozen we wouldn't have been so fucked at the position last season. As for RBs- decent ones are indeed plentiful, but we saw what happened to our offense without Best last year.

I feel like I do like TEs more than most... they have more versatility that a WR and the H-back types can play some FB in addition to blocking on the line and running routes. We got 5 right now in camp who could all help us out. That being said we're also deep at WR and RB, so we got some tough decisions to make...

I would not be sad to see Fauria stay and scheffler sent somewhere else. I don't think Scheffler provides anything over Fauria except experience, and the drop off in production would not be severe.

I think Scheff is a lot better than he gets credit for. His numbers are very good for a #2 TE.

Fauria has potential, but I don't think it's wise to pencil in Scheffler-like production out of him yet. He's a bigger target and a good red-zone option, but he lacks Scheff's speed down the seam.

Remember the whole "bird in hand" saying; Fauria is new and shiny and could be awesome, but what happens if we ship Scheff off and it turns out that Fauria sucks?

I'm not saying that will be the case, I'm just playing devil's advocate a bit. I think we need to see all these kids go through at least two or three preseason games before we really start to pass judgement on them...

I agree Scheffler would be more valuable, I just don't think it would be a great drop off. I think he will be at best the 5th option so there is not a ton of potentia for great numbers or any player there,

Final year of Scheffler's AND Pettigrew's deal. After the idiotic contract the dumbass Rams gave Jared Cook its going to be expensive to keep just Pettigrew.

I agree with Swarm on the value of the TE position but the business part of the game tilts me to trading Scheffler as the way to go. We get a couple positive things out of that. 1. With some teams so desperate I think you could get good value with a 5th and maybe even a young developmental player as well (preferably a S, since I have no hope of Delmas being a Lion next season). 2. If we keep Scheffler and move Fauria to the practice squad he may get snagged away, leaving us in a really bad position no TE's at all under contract heading into 2014. 3. Smitty says Scheffler is a dick. 4. The cap advantage for next season. If the Lions were to trade Scheffler he is a $2.5m hit we unload this year. We don't need to spend that so we can carry it forward into 2014 which is a huge plus.

In all I just don't see the added value of keeping Scheffler vs Fauria (assuming the coaching staff feels Fauria has the talent, and 32 teams including us, passed on him through 7 full rounds). If they do, then it is a wise move (from the business side of the game) to trade him if he can produce on the field as well. Can't hurt to see what the market values him at though, that's just what a smart GM should do.

Our new quick pass offense puts less of a need on the TE as a receiver too.

Chris Greenwood is finally back to practice. He's got some serious catching up to do if he hopes to make the final 53...

My guess is no, have to be on the field as a 4th round draft pick to develop. Maybe the practice squad?
