Varying views on Hartnell-Phaneuf scrap

Trading partners
Nary a day goes by without a report of the Flyers dealing James van Riemsdyk to the Maple Leafs for defenseman Luke Schenn.

Old news, says one Leafs’ executive.

“We haven’t talked about that in a month and Schenn is playing very well,” the source said.

Flyer sources said there was never a deal there because their feeling was JVR has the potential to be a 40-goal scorer while Schenn doesn’t match that potential from a defensive standpoint in giveback.

Despite this, the Leafs remain interested in JVR, even though he is currently concussed. Recall the Leafs traded for Matthew Lombardi last July despite the fact he played only two games last season in Nashville with post-concussion syndrome.

“That would not be a deterrent,” the source said.

Fact is we do need to make a trade of some sort to get tougher on D.....last night somebody knocked over Bob and not one guy did anything about it. If someone comes near Tim Thomas 9 guys are attacking him like he killed TT

i think they want/can get something more than an expiring contract and a pick for suter (even though he's expiring too)

I was thinking more along the lines that new contracts would be worked out with both teams. Carle being cheaper they could afford to fit him in and Philly could spend the extra on resigning suter. Probably have to be a 1st though or something like that maybe even a forward like Read. Ah who the fuck knows but they need someone this year...

At this point, I'll be happy if they add Gill for the rest of the season because the D sucks and they need to do something.

I'll take Gaustad and Regehr and give BLo Briere. Gaustad helps by winning face-offs and Regehr is a decent physical dman that we need. Wish this could happen but won't.

Why so eager to move Briere? He is money in the playoffs.

Seravalli had a new blog today that says the Flyers should be sellers at the trade deadline.
