It appears that dmen will be near impossible to sign next season unless a trade is made. I think most are locked up? I could be wrong.

Could be some who are also freed up with the impending buyouts

Oh ya, it'll be a pain in the ass to get a dman no doubt. And to be honest that doesn't seem like a big price tag, I don't know either of those prospects. But jbo is essentially a less experienced Matt carle that makes 1 mil more than him and cost assets to acquire.

Carle beats jbo in every statistic measurable except avg toi over the past 5 years.

Basically, I'm thrilled the flyers didn't trade for him. I wouldn't have taken him for free.

There's a team other than TOR also talking to CGY about Kiprusoff.

I'd love to see this guy wearing Orange and Black for a couple years, and Calgary seems willing to take draft picks or college kids in their "burn it to the ground" sale. However, I'm guessing Toronto is willing to give up more than we would.

Of course, I'm assuming that Bryz is getting bought out this summer. That's gonna happen, right?!?

So St. Louis has A LOT of dmen right now. I think they're going to have to shed some. Who will it be? I'd love to have Shattenkirk but he would be expensive.

doubt we could get anything from them right now, but i'd definitely look at them this summer..

they have 38 mil comitted to the cap next year (26 mil in space) with 10 spots to fill.. including pietrangelo, shattenkirk, berglund, stewart, mcdonald, cole, and russel, all of which will be due for pretty sizable raises i think (bold are dmen that are < 26 years old)

st louis is going all in this season because they have a ton of decisions to make this summer.

We have to do something Bryz will be gone and going into the season with boucher and leighton wont be a good idea. I read somewhere Bernier is on the trading block.

ya, the kings would be wise to move bernier (or quick) before they end up like the canucks.. with two goalies that aren't playing very well and paying both of them like starters.. problem is, nobody is moving goalies because nobody is willing to pay for goalies.

bishop is an interesting one too, the sens have anderson who is elite, lehner who is an elite prospect, and bishop who has played very well.

then there are a bunch of free agents coming up this year that wouldn't be bad stop gaps if they buy out bryzy this summer

backstrom (min)
thomas ("nyi")
khabibulin (edm)
nabakov (nyi, probably resigning there)
howard (det)
smith (pho, please not him)
emery (chi, my choice)

so there are a lot of options.. that list will get pared down a bit with contract extensions, but that's still a lot of starting goalies that could be available if you want to buy out bryz and get one of them on the relatively cheap
