Word leaking out this morning is that the Patriots have been talking to several teams about a trade. First is the Tennessee Titans and the names out there are Jason McCourty (Devin's twin brother) and Coty Sensabaugh who's rookie contract is up at the end of this year and the Titans can't afford to resign.

The other is with Tampa Bay Sterling Moore or Johnathan Banks.

The Patriots cornerback position is really thin and there are no backups available. Bill has the personnel people torching the airwaves.

What about Sean Smith in KC. BB and Reid are always trading (draft) and good friends. Smith should come a decent price for the rest of the yr and should sign for a reasonable deal next yr. KC is going no where.

Don't need a LT. Cannon was playing great, until he stubbed his toe. Seabass played great over there and Fleming was fine for coming of the PS. If Cannon can come back, we will be fine. I also think Kline can play OT if we need him too.

Have to remember that actual cap space the Patriots only have $2.61 million. That eliminates the first two guys off the list.

I'm pretty sure that space can be created if they find the right guy. There are more than a few clingons who can be dumped.......starting with Aarron Dobson....

It is a little harder to cut somebody who started on the 53-man roster. I think it is all veterans who have been on an NFL roster 4 or more years are fully guaranteed so that means you have to cut one of the young guys. Also cutting Dobson only saves you maybe $500,000 or so.

They can definitely make it work. It is just tougher than some make it out to be. You can't just say "well let's cut this player and all will be good." Like I said when you look at the NFL rules any player with 4 or more years of experience on the roster day 1 doesn't make sense to cut as it doesn't give you any help cap wise. If we are looking at cuts Chandler Jones is the top contract you could cut that would actually save you cap money. it would definitely have to happen more from a restructured contract than from a cut player. Jerod Mayo is a guy I could see being an option. He has to know that there is a good chance he is cut after this season with his vast injury history and high cap number. Restructuring his deal could give him a little more security that the team would be willing to hold onto him. Ninkovich is another that I could see with doing an extension and lowering some of his cap hit.
