Damn

They will probably lose Cole after this year but still. At least this is an optimal time to rebuild while they maximize their window.

Would love to see M's get Cole. I still think if M's have any chance at contending they are going to have to add SP's from outside the organization especially top 2 SP's in rotation.

Agreed. They've cleared enough payroll to do a move like that. Worst case if things are still bad in a couple years you can flip him.

And this is what I hate about the lack of signing bigger name free agents. You can flip them later for prospects. See Greinke too Astros. Backs get:

The Astros now have Verlander, Cole, and Greinke in the rotation with a combined record of 36-13... LMAO

The Tigers as a team has 31 wins. And the Orioles have 36.

Wait, wasn't this guy just an All-Star and untouchable last year?

From Divish on why ownership nixed the Leake to AZ deal. He actually answered my question.

Nothing concrete. But it was supposedly a combo of money, timing and poor prospect return

That's interesting. Well he got traded to Arizona anyway. Interested to hear the details.

I have no idea who any of these 3 relievers we picked up, but I like the fact we are getting something for nothing in these deals instead of letting them walk or get hurt.

Based on the grading by MLBPipeline and what I saw from Baseball America it looks like they should slot in the low 20s or early teens in our top-30. Not too bad considering Elias and Strickland weren't in our long-term plans. Our farm system is starting to get some decent depth.

I'm really interested to hear if there is anyone else in the deal and what the financials look like. I'm not sure what we should've expected in return for Leake, but it doesn't appear he's in their top-30 prospects.

Yup agreed and like I said... they seems to be just mid-tier prospects but the fact that the M's are getting them for a couple of 30 year olds who do not fit into the long term plan is a win imo.

If anyone can name the everyone in the bullpen after Elias and Strickland are traded I'll be very impressed.

I was unable to, but I now know that they're all Astros.
Verlander
Greinke
Cole

The scariest part in all of this is that when it comes down to it in the playoffs and they need either one of these guys to go on a 3 days rest. They could.

In a game 7, if they need the other 2 to be in the bullpen... they could.

Kinda unfair atm.

Agreed. They're not top end guys, but it's definitely a good depth move for an organization that is weak on pitching.

They'll have a hell of a tough task against the lineup the Yankees are able to put out there.

Thats why there was no reason to pretend we could compete with that. Young core, no bad contracts and deep system to get guys like Verlander, Cole and Grienke. Hopefully their window will shut a little when ours is ready to open

I believe that sooner rather than later they will have way too many guys they need to pay and won't be able to retain them all. I don't know much about their ownership or willingness to spend, but it would take a lot of money to keep all of those guys.
