Has Kerrigan's current salary for 2020 (11+M) been paid to the player or does he like everyone else collect it as the season progresses?

I agree that there's no double dipping on his salary, because he's off of the books next year. The question at hand is, what happens to his current (2020) salary if he's no longer here to collect it?

Will Washington be able to keep it for next year, or, spend it this year for another player? (You win if you answered it's their option)

Ok, I think I see the light now. Kerrigan will be off the books for 2021 if he plays the 20 season, but if he’s gone for 2020 it’s a gain that can be rolled over. Was thinking he still had a year left after 2020, but I guess he doesn’t

Exactly , there is no benefit to doing anything unless you get a good draft pick or sign a must have free agent (s)

they are hung up on some roll over crap thinking the get extra money . They do not . The 12 mil is either rolled over this year to next if unused or the 12 mil is there because after the season the money or space if you will ,will be there and you end up at the same point at the beginning of the new (2021) league year as you would if you rolled it over

You seriously do not get it.

Since that's what I said several times, what prize do I get?

I knew that was what you and @Gk said but it seemed as if these basic points weren't effective as you guys made them. I just put it in simpler terms.

You cannot double dip period , the money is there regardless. You get nothing extra

Nobody has used the word double dip but you.

If we save money this year, we have more to spend next year. It is called rollover. You don’t seem to understand it.

It may depend on whether or not they pick Young, but I think it makes sense to offload Kerrigan either way. If they don't pick Young, I think Allen and Sweat would be our starting DE's, and I'd be happy with that, tbh. It shouldn't be hard to find a backup to go with Orchard.

Available for what free agent ? Supply the must have person (or persons ) that requires us to cut him this instant and our 24 mil we have now can’t cover

The person is not relevant. There will be free agents available, our own included.

If you want to be a dumb ass and pay 12 million for a backup DE, it will explain why we can never win.

With all this double dipping, I wish there was an ice-cream parlor open. :(

The way I see it once he’s off the books, he’s off the books, so the 12 mil cap relief is either in 2020 which will rollover, or the relief is in 2021. Sounds the same to me

2020 unused cap space is 24 million currently.
If 2021 cap it set at 200 million for the league, we will have 224 million in cap space.

If we cut RK, we have 36 million in cap space for 2020.
In 2021, we would have 236 million in cap space.

it gives an actual example on page 113 of the CBA.

Shades of Kirk Cousins. Lets replace him with a guy with one year and a guy that hasn't played in the NFL. I hope it works out better than the QB situation.

So tell me which player / players make it better. Right now none of you can do that and if you can ( or a draft. Choice) then fine I am down with it

And we will still have that money in 2021 GK . You dont get to double dip , the only difference is that you roll. Over 24 mil instead of 36 but you end up at the same place. 236 mil in 2021

I believe it is you who don’t get it , you don’t get to double dip . The page you quote makes no such provision it ONLY talks about roll overs . You don’t get to count the roll over of RK’s cap space then take the additional 12 mil as well . I asked you or anyone to show me
Nobody is claiming “double dipping.”

Article 13, section 6, paragraph 5, on page 113 under the heading “CARRYING OVER ROOM”

It states, if we have unused cap room at the end of the season, then we can roll that amount over for next season, increasing next season’s cap space.

IE, if we don’t pay RK 12 million this season, then we can use that 12 million this season on other players, or we can roll that amount over to next season, increasing next season’s available cap.
now here is your quote , not mine but yours , and nowhere does that say you get to double dip . And what that means GK is what I have been saying all along . The cap space will be there . The question is when it will be available . Yes in 2020 it can be available for use . Yes it can be rolled over in 2021. But if we play RK this year and keep him for 2020 we STILL get that salary space in 2021 it just won’t be available in 2020 (this season for use )

So now it goes back to what must have player(s) do we need in 2020. Now if we can get a good draft pick ,again I am on board .

as for paying 12 mil for a BU ,DE I will say that both our starting DE’s are below market value and hence unless you have FA’s in mind that offer us a better use of his space then by all means I am on board

Only you use the word double dip.

Page 113 says clearly what I have been stating. Not every team has the same amount of cap space year to year.

The part that clearly states unused cap from 2020 can rollover and be added to cap for 2021.

I am trying to explain if we get rid of RK, it frees up 12 million in cap space this season, and that 12 million in cap space can be rolled over, if we don’t use it this season, into the 2021 cap.

Guys, looking through the info on spotrac.com - which is a wonderful source for looking at team's cap room and individual contracts - get used to the term "adjusted cap". It's the regular cap plus the unused amount rolled over from the prior year. Each team has a different adjusted cap. Everyone's gotta grasp that - mmk? Otherwise, we sound like we're doing a "Who's on first?" skit. I had no idea about it until gkekoa pointed it out a few days ago. Learn it, love it, live it.

In this you are completely right but as I have stated we will STILL have the damn 12 mil anyway at the start of the 2021 league year regardless . The only benefit is the space would be available this year and my point is so the hell what . Unless there is a guy or guys out there that make us a better football team that our 24 mil can’t handle then there is no need to do anything unless you care about dan Snyder’s money . I don’t but apparently you are comfortable. With Anderson , Odom and brailford as potential bu’s with some mystery FA’s leading our team to glory .

You seem to completely misunderstand that we rollover 36 million instead of 24 million (minus future expenditures in both cases) into next season’s cap, increasing the size of the cap available for us.
