To be fair, I've never seen the point of that thread - what is the reason of having a messageboard if all the hockey talk is supposed to be in one thread? Or am I missing the point completely? I am a bird after all, and my brain is only so large.

To be fair, I've never seen the point of that thread - what is the reason of having a messageboard if all the hockey talk is supposed to be in one thread? Or am I missing the point completely? I am a bird after all, and my brain is only so large.

Beats me, but if someone started a new thread every time something occured in the NHL, or about the NHL, we would be knocking threads off the 1st page before they had a chance to breathe. Obviously moreso in the actual Season of course.

I guess it all boils down to whether or not the person posting it thinks it deserves its own thread?

Talent pool is so damn diluted as it is, there's a team that's actually paying David Clarkson $5.5 million!

Maybe a team will claim him in the expansion draft in an effort to meet the cap floor?

Well, contraction will never, ever ever happen, so the less it's talked about the better.

If expansion had to happen, I would be fine with 2 teams. 4 is a very, very dangerous thinning of the talent pool and in places like KC and Vegas, a risky proposition for a league in which a third of the teams aren't exactly the steadiest financially.

Yeah, I think the bolded part above plays a prominent role, also if it is news about a team that doesn't have a huge representation on this board (Winnipeg, Carolina are a couple of examples), the Ongoing NHL thread can be used as a catch-all. That said, if you want to create a new thread, feel free to do so.

It's win-win, since it adds another 23 player jobs plus minors etc. Everybody gets rich while the fans watch their sport become more diluted.
