How in the hell is Favre not in here :wtf2:

Of all of the elite QB's, Favre is the most overrated by far.

If you want to know how the hell Favre isn't there, take a walk down memory lane
and with that talent, he was a turnover Machine in the playoffs during the 2000's.

He accumulated off the chart regular season stats by being a tough iron man but his playoff history
is on the incredibly weak end of the spectrum.

If you can't remember, go check the box scores, even if you can't recall via the
"eye test". He had 4 and 6 interception playoff games because he'd throw across his body
like a dumb ass and get picked. He singlehandedly lost playoff games, even if he was
a paramount reason they were there.

Off the cuff, I recall crap games vs the Rams, Vikings, Eagles and that Giant fiasco as
games he gave away with poor passing and decision making. :L

Misko, if Broadway Joe hadn't made that prediction, we wouldn't even know his name now. :2cents: The guy just wasn't that good.

I have no opinion on either Unitas or Namath because I didn't see them play.
The "eye test" is paramount for me to make a decision.

I believe Namath was the 1st QB to throw for 4000+ yds and the SB obviously
elevated him along with owning night clubs to icon status.

I'm not sure your take on Marino based on your comment but I take it you downgrade his talent
because he was on teams that had no running game, a below avg D and while I like the Mark
Bro's, they were a couple of smurfs that Marino elevated & no rings.

Had the Rooneys drafted Dan, like they wanted, instead of the guy from TT, Dan would've likely
had a cpl of SB's.

To this day, nobody threw the rock like Marino, nobody. Seeing highlights or watching him on TV was one thing, seeing him live is another. He could slide left and throw a 60 yd pass with zip and touch
on a dime to a streaking Duper or Clayton on a 9 route. It was a thing of beauty. He did it consistently. When I saw him live throw for 429 yds and 3 Td's effortlessly as a kid, I was sold. He was my favorite QB of all time, even though I give Montana the respect as #1 for his dominate SB's.

I realize it's more than an arm but he was still dominate. In 1984, if you swap Dan on the 9ers and Joe to the Fin's do you really think Joe wins the SB with the fins? :L No way! That is why it's a team game and the QB success can only go so far w/out some surrounding talent. TDavis to Denver elevated Elway to back to back SB's.

Besides, if it wasn't for your stealers dominate D, Ben wouldn't have won shit, either. He won and no I'm bitter at all just stating facts, with the lowest QB rating in history. Something in the 20's. In 2 SB's he had 3 picks and 1 nice drive for a Td. He was pedestrian and it was Harrison's pick 6 before the half and a 10 or 14 pt swing that led to the W. Ben had 7 attempts inside the zona 20 and could only get 3.

Marino was the man w/out rings and Ben is whatever with 2 rings due to a dominate D. (#1 - #3 in both seasons.

Those are the facts... :yahoo:

its all good dude ben is a very good QB he isnt the best but he isnt the worst either .. but I wasnt even mentioning him here in this thread ...

It's sad but for this new generation, he's more known for being drunk
and hitting on Suzy Kolber (sp?) and giving him the old man trying
to get some from the young reporter like he did "back in the day."

Yep, almost 21,500 posts and all about the Patriots.

Your head is all fucked up, Nipsey. You're already delusional and now you're starting to get paranoid too.

In fact, can someone go in the bathroom and check on him again? He's been in there since Sunday afternoon and I think we're all really starting to worry. Here he was the last time I checked.

Right. You hardly ever post about Brady and the Pats. I made it up.

Who's delusional again?

Cool. I wasn't trying to bash Ben, I used him as an example because you're a Pitt fan and
could relate to the surrounding talent argument.

I'm actually surprised but glad Marino is getting the love he's getting in the top 5 voting because
he didn't win a ring.

Had the Rooney's drafted Marino and the Father wanted Marino, you'd have 10 rings. Bradshaw
was done, it was Mark Malone, a great team and all that was missing was Marino. Marino from
1983 - 1997 in Pittsburgh? Are you f'in kidding me? :noidea: Did Noll override the decision to go DT because he liked the Mean Joe comparison? I believe so...

here is my thing about ben he has matured through the years but people dont give him the credit that he deserves most of the time ... and yes the steelers have always believed in a great Defense and thats what we are used to but the last couple of seasons :L .. but we will be back

I watched them both play. Namath passed for more yards his first 5 seasons than anyone in history until Marino broke that record due to the rules changes and 16 game schedule. He was generally considered top 3 his first 5 years. He had a cannon and the quickest release in the game. He was a gunslinger though, so even during his heyday he threw a lot of picks. Injuries finally took their toll and he was basically washed up at 28, though he continued to play. Unitas was as good as everyone says he was. He had the good fortune to play for a lot of very good teams, too. Actually, Jurgensen was the best QB of that era imo, but the Skins absolutely sucked... no run game or defense. He lost his 1st 4 seasons, though, because he had to sit and wait for Van Brocklin to retire or his numbers would have easily surpassed Johnny U's... all of his rate stats do anyway.

I've seen highlights of Namath and if there was a guy who had that same Dan Marino quick release and could drop that ball in the corner pocket, it was Namath. He made that white receiver who I can't remember look all-pro a couple of those seasons.

That is why my list goes via "eye test" (excludes Unitas, Baugh, Starr, etc)

1. Montana
2. Marino
3. Brady
4. Elway
5. Manning

Honorable mention in no order:

Staubach
Aikman
Warner
Young
Bradshaw

:noidea:

This should be pretty much everyone's top 5, the order may vary but those really should be the 5 candidates. The old school guys I don't count because as stated, defenses were not designed against the pass, the whole game changed. Has to be guys from the modern era.

One more for my honorable mention and my homer selection.
He was a Husky and Seahawk.

Warren Moon. He had that sweet release and touch, too. When
Moon got hot, he was a surgeon out there.

Maynard was no Biletnikoff. Maynard could fly. He was great in his own right. George Sauer Namath made look better than he probably was.

Fine, but there were guys under center back then who would have been great in any era. From the standpoint of pure physical attributes the QB position has changed less than any other since the 60s. They guys who played QB back then were the ones who could pass it the best. That hasn't changed. There were guys who could throw it as hard, far & accurately as those playing today. But I don't get this diminishing of the old timers because teams were supposedly built to stop the run. If that's true it was only because it was so much harder to pass, than run it, effectively due to the rules at the time.

I didn't see Maynard live, so I couldn't gauge his speed. What I did see were sticky
hands like Fred, great route runners, HOFer's and white...:yahoo: Is that enough? :noidea:

I'll take your call as to Maynard's speed. :noidea:
