The guy had basically crap on offense for years. Little running game and the 3 amigos ? Seriously ? Yet they were still regularly top 8 in offense while he dragged them to 3 SBs. The reason was Elway. People who watched him play back then know why. He's a perfect example of why you can't just look at the numbers in football.

People who watched him also remember the Broncos had decent defenses and how badly Elway sucked in those 3 Super Bowls. Without Terrell Davis, Elway has zero rings...

He's a perfect example of how a couple memorable plays can make you overrated.

Johnny Unitas used to shit little Tom Brady's. Brady's not fit to lick his jockstrap.

Unitas is the Godfather of QB's, he's thee original G.

Seriously, how does Elway end up on so many of these lists? It will always be a mystery to me.
Elway would be in my top ten but in no way would he be in my top five. The Broncos great Ds helped them get to the SBs early. TD and Elway for sure did great work to win in the last years of his career.

No worries, Elway will be pushed back to 3rd and maybe even 4th by the time Manning and Brady retire.

Manning jumping both Elway and Montana of course

Exactly. The top two quarterbacks of the 80s were Montana and Marino. The top 2 quarterbacks of the 90s were Young and Favre. These are just the no brainers. At best he's in the 5 spot just during his career, and even that is debatable.

I'd take Troy Aikman over Steve Young all damn day long. :2cents:

Take him over Brett Favre to

Way too many give aways to consider Favre

Favre 1.5 to 1 TD to INT
Aikman 1.2 to 1 TD to INT

Favre +75 in his career on TD's vs turnovers ( inlcuding rush TD's and fumbles )
Aikman +3 in his career on TD's vs turnovers ( inlcuding rush TD's and fumbles )

Aikman in his ENTIRE career had more 3 more TDs than he did turnovers. 3!!! LAME. Just saying.

This should be pretty much everyone's top 5, the order may vary but those really should be the 5 candidates. The old school guys I don't count because as stated, defenses were not designed against the pass, the whole game changed. Has to be guys from the modern era.

If it's modern era, give me Warner over Brady.

People should stop putting Elway in their top 5. He's probably not even top 10.

And of course this post was given a thumbs-up from a Brady goober, right? :rolleyes2:

This is the same guy who puts Brady #1, doesn't list Peyton at all, then when asked why not "because... because... well, ummm because he's terrible that's why! Oh yeah, and he can't play in the cold either."

I'm not sure Aikman's lack of passing TD's means much considering Emmit Smith ran for more than 150 and the boys almost always ran it in when they got close. I'd take Aikman in the play-offs and SB all day long over Favre. Neither are top 5 or even close though so I guess it doesn't matter in this thread.
