Is there an argument for William over Bonds OUTSIDE of PEDs?

If PEDs is your reason, fine. But if it isn’t, what is the argument?

With Bonds, Imo he is either #2 or #4 or off the list entirely. He is either ahead of Mays and Williams or behind them. Maybe not as extreme as Milks position but I think there is a tier here. Although maybe an argument for Aaron in this tier, too.

I find this interesring.... Williams is not in my top five with our without Bonds, and I'm a Sox fan....

But I think I said that in the last thread....

So YOUR opinion is that Bonds is #4, behind Mays and Williams? Or are you placing Bonds at #4 only because Mays is #2, therefore Williams must be #3?

A huge part of the Williams equation is him having 3 prime years missing. His actual numbers certainly arent top 5

Interesting that Williams is winning, yet no one (outside of Clayton, so far) is willing to stump for Williams.

My opinion is that Bonds is #2 if you're just going off stats. Baseball's villain. I actually think I'm talking myself down on Williams instead of up on Bonds right now, tbh

(I have changed my vote btw)

But he has a WAR7 that is right there with the best of them. Hard to fault him for his lack of accumulation when there is a non-injury reason for that non accumulation and his WAR7 is so elite.

I want to see the boards opinion at each spot. I think you should erase Mays and Ruth from your brain, than vote for whom you think is the best player in the history of the game. Where ever you land is how I want you to vote.

Allow me to play devil's advocate. Williams was a better hitter. Much higher batting avg, higher OBP, higher slugging pct, higher OPS, higher OPS+. I won't give Williams credit based on what you assume he would have done in seasons missed during his prime but I'll cut him slack on being behind in the counting stats. Now, according to the metrics we judge fielders of days past, it seems like he was a butcher in the field. But the case for Williams is he was simply the best hitter ever, except for Ruth.

It's too hard for me to rank the top 10 of all time considering different eras' and how do you compare a ss responsibilities to a rightfielders. So therefore i'm just picking my starting 9 since 1970.

C- Bench
1b- Pujols
2b-Altuve
ss- Arod
3b-Schmidt
of- Bonds
of-Griffy Jr
of-Gwynn

That seems like an interesting topic for another thread. But also I think you forgot about Joe Morgan.

Did you ever see Williams play (I did not)? Did he stop the heart of the opposing team when he stepped up the way Ruth, Mays and Bonds did?

Bonds has a WAR7 of 72.8 vs 59.7 for Williams. Bonds has 241 more HRs, 157 more RBI, 429 more runs, 490 more SB, 76 2B, 281 more hits…

Bonds has the WAR7 and the accumulation. He also brought speed AND defense to the table.

did you see Mays?? or was he the #2 because you giants fans got fooled by his legend??

knocking on Williams over Bonds is a joke for anyone who voted Mays over bonds... because clearly Steroids was not your reason...

I did not. I didn’t find the game til about ‘86.

i did not intend my question to be part of the argument. I was genuinely asking those questions.

I really don’t care who wins each of these votes. I just want the discussions.
