I know what the stats say, but two different eras. Dorsett was great, but i guess having an all time rushing leader in Emmitt Smith on the same team kind of left Dorsett without much love? I think Dorsett would be more talked about today had they both not played for the same franchise?

Emmitt and Aikman for that matter, benefited from one of the best offensive lines ever IMO. If Sanders was on that team he may still be running. Not saying Emmitt wasnt one of the best, he was a beast....but he got a lot of momentum before getting touched as I recall, I am old so I could remember something that was not true.

Dorsett was a hell of a RB. At the time, great college RB's didn't always make great pro RB's. Archie Griffin, Charles White, John Cappelletti. And there was some controversy. Some said the NFL stacked the deck so "America's Team" could get Dorsett. Tampa drafted first and took Ricky Bell. Seattle had the 2nd, Dorsett said he wouldn't play there so they traded the pick to Dallas. And there's a bit of a black mark because the Cowpokes only won one title while he was there.

Big big cowboy Tom Landry fan

TD was more the finesse RB , when he turned on the boosters, smooth ridin, he was gone

Emmitt was more powerful , both running and full back for short yardage

My pick TD

if you are ranking them.
You got to go with Emmitt Smith.
However my favorite Cowboy Running back all-time is Tony Dorsett, & ever since I have been waiting for this team to get another TD.
In this era with the rules the way they are. If we ever landed another TD2.0. Oh my gawd! A player with vision & if he gets through the 1st layer. See ya no ones catching him. (excluding that damn Darrell Green) :D
So if you are asking which type of RB would I want on the team today. Tony Dorsett. That threat of needing to stop him before getting to the 2nd layer would hugely benefit the passing game.

Loved ES, but you have to point out the STACKED teams he played on coincided with a LOOONG career - allowed him to take advantage of his talents far longer than many other RB's. Something to be said for that kind of longevity at that position. I think he belongs in the discussion for top RB's, but I'm not sure he's a top 3 guy, myself.

That being said, I'd take Sanders every day, all day - in any era. The only guy, IMO, I might consider above him would be Bo Jackson...he had Sander's ability with Jim Brown's build, but unlike Brown - Jackson wasn't bigger than most OL of his day...lol

I am a huge fan of both Emmitt & TD and they are both some of the best to ever play. If I had a choice and was picking from among the best ever and picking it would be really hard to make a choice. But I would seriously look at 2 former Bears as in Gayle Sayers and Walter Payton. Sayers is highly underrated IMO as one of the best ever. With today’s medical tech his career would have been even more incredible than it was. They were all amazing players and trying to say who is the best ever is like trying to catch the wind with a one strand barbed wire fence.
