I don't know what the hell is up with this Idaho basketball team.

They kick WSU's ass and follow that up with a loss to a mediocre CSUB team. Then they come out and trail at halftime to D2 Simon Fraser before eventually pulling out a 19 point win. Then last night they absolutely go off and destroy the preseason MAC favorite on their home court.

Idaho vs. Western Michigan - Game Recap - December 18, 2017 - ESPN

Need some more consistency here, but man if this team can stay hot from three they're going to be hard to beat come conference play. They nailed 17 threes last night which might be a school record. Also currently top 10 in the country in 3 point FG%.

They should be able to find the consistency. Too much talent not to. I figured there might be some growing pains with this many players that want the ball.

That game was unwatchable for the first 10 minutes. Idaho turned the ball over 5 or 6 times in the first ten and went down big early. Luckily EWU just isn't that good and they were somehow able to win scoring 58.

Really inconsistent start to conference play. The home loss to Portland State at the last minute was brutal. The inconsistency has been a trend this year so I guess I'm not surprised. Every big win seems to be followed by an uninspiring loss which is a god damn shame because this is the best Idaho basketball team on paper in the last 25 years. Also the best chance they've had to make the NCAA tourney in that time frame.

Luckily the next 6 are against the bottom 6 teams in the conference. Good time to get things rolling and Idaho somehow manages to only play Montana, Montana State, and Weber once this year in the regular season. No reason they shouldn't end up as a top seed in the conference tournament. I'm sure Donnie V .500 will have something to say about that though.

Managed to squeak by NAU and SUU on the road this week. Didn't look particularly good but a win is a win. On paper they shouldn't lose more than 2 the rest of the way. Just gotta hope they can play to their potential.

I get it now. Chuck was really just down in New Mexico to schedule a football game.

Oh wait, what's this? It wasn't UNM? It was Western New Mexico? What the fuck?

Yeah, 5th home opponent in 2018 is the WNMU Mustangs. We all know them right?

So that means the 2018 Schedule is:

09/01 @ Fresno State
09/08 Western New Mexico
09/15 OPEN
09/22 @ UC Davis
09/29 vs Portland St
10/06 @ Idaho State
10/13 @ Montana State
10/20 vs Southern Utah
10/27 @ Eastern Washington
11/03 vs. North Dakota
11/10 vs Montana
11/17 @ Florida

Two meaningless games to start the year followed by three games nobody gives a shit about.

Florida as the last game of the year which is also going to be meaningless. Seriously, what do you do as an FCS school playing a beat down game for the last game of the season. You're either in the playoffs which means there is no point in playing guys and getting them hurt, or your season has been over for a month and you're just looking at guys for next year anyway. Either way I don't see why you'd play your starters.

Anyway they also announced the 5th non-conference opponent for the next 4 years. So we now have the following additional home games to fill out the schedule:

2018: Western New Mexico
2019: Lewis Clark State College (football team to be announced this year)
2020: University of Phoenix
2021: Greendale Community College
2022: South Center Louisiana State

Guess I better get an FBS team to root for in case I feel like watching real college football next year.

Oregon State? They do suck ass. But consider the following:

Former Vandal QB coach as head coach
Former Vandal QB as OC
Former Vandal QB as QB (Maybe? Depends on if Luton is healthy and wins the job again).

Yeah that works.

Go Beavs

Men's basketball has won 7 of 8 but they've come against real weak competition and Idaho really seems unable to put two solid halves together. Probably going to be a rough stretch against MSU, Montana, and Weber with a surprisingly not that shitty Idaho State in the middle.

The Griz just look too good this year, I don't see Idaho taking the tournament title which is pretty shitty when you consider how good this Idaho team was supposed to be.

At least there's some good news with Jerry Kramer getting into the HoF. Finally.

Sandpoint High, University of Idaho standout Jerry Kramer elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Just throwing this out too because I didn't know:

Former University of Idaho sprinter Sam Michener set for Olympics as member of U.S. bobsled team

U of I grad on the Olympic bobsled team and apparently one of the Cool Runnings Jamaican bobsled dudes went to Idaho.

Wow. Idaho comes away with a home sweep over Montana and Montana State.

Nate Sherwood last-second put back gives Idaho the win over the Sheep Fuckers in OT.

Four left to play. ISU, Weber, NAU, and SUU.

Half game behind Weber who still has Idaho, EWU, Montana, and Montana State.
One and a half back from Montana who has Montana State, Weber, and ISU.

Win out and they should be looking at a 2 seed in the conference tourney. Outside chance they get the 1 at the end of the year which would at least guarantee an NIT trip if they don't make the dance.

Idaho vs. Weber State - Game Recap - February 24, 2018 - ESPN

Tied for second place two games back on Montana with two games left. Won't get the 1 unless they lose out and Idaho wins out. Losing to ISU before the Weber win killed any real chance of the 1 seed. Not much you can do when the opposing team shoots 70% from three though.

Also lost Callandret for the season which blows even if he was more a rotational guy at this point.

The loss of Callandret hurts... He was their 3rd highest scorer. But they are red hot winning 9 out of their last 10. In the last 2 games Mkrtychyan really stepped up. They'll need more from him & Sherwood if they want to make any impact in the BSCT. Looks like they'll get the winner of ISU & SUU. My guess is they get their rematch with ISU.

Seems likely. Idaho wins that game in Pocatello if ISU doesn't shoot 70% from 3.

I'm a bit worried about Blake right now. Dude went down hard at the end of the SUU game last night and had to come out of the game. SUU got called for an intentional foul and Sherwood had to take his free throws.

Blake came right back in a few minutes later and nailed the game-winner though, so me may be alright. Gonna need him for Reno.

Fun Fact: Don Verlin is 4-7 in conference tournaments with half of those wins coming in one year. If arguably the best player on the team is out I don't like Idaho's chances to win anything. On a positive note though Idaho is 4-0 against the 1, 3, and 4 seeds in the tourney.

And speaking of Callendret, Sanders wore his jersey on senior night last night. Pretty cool.

Very cool! Sucks to see a senior go down and end his collegiate career like that.

Didn't see the Blake injury but heard about it. Dismissed it after I saw he had the game winner.

Apparently it was an elbow injury and he stated that he would be fine in the presser afterward. Should be good to go.

Doubt he gets it, but Blake has a legit claim at BSC Player of the year. Averaging almost a double-double. Leads the league in rebounding and is eighth in the league in scoring.
