I have to say, this one's pretty cool. Mets did something right for once.
"The last thing I want is to be a distraction for my teammates."
And he still has herpes...
How has Jete been a distraction? Compared to say, A-Rod last season?
First of all, are you fucking kidding me? How has he been a distraction? And you're going to justify his gloryhounding my comparing him to the A-Rod steroid scandal?
"He might be a selfish asshole, but... but... but at least he's not as bad as A-Rod!!!"
"Mariano and Jete's retirement circus was actually GOOD for the team. They sacrificed for the good of the Yankees." - CSD
Truly beyond belief

Gotta agree with the hammered one, announcing your retirement at the beginning of a season so you can get a year's worth of send-off tributes is very self-serving. In no other industry is this practiced.
Why didn't he or Mariano wait til the end of the year, last game, and say, "That's it for me, I'm hanging up the cleats..."? There have been plenty of players in all the major sports who have done just that, good ones, hall of fame ones.
I don't care if they're both "nice guys," I believe that what they've both done is more distracting to their team than a few media guys asking you "Are you retiring?" a few times during the season.

Are you 12 years old?
Even on Memorial Day, Jeter has to be a prima donna.
Very self-centered.

Question: Can a player be considered "all class" if he takes a spot on the All-Star team that a much better young player has rightfully earned?
