I haven't really been paying attention (sucks without TV)...

Are any teams doing things for Jeter before his final games? I saw Clemens and Pettitte came to see him in Houston a while ago - and I think they gave him some crap... I assume it was becasue they had both played with him in NY...

Just wondering if he is actually creating some type of circus for his last games at any other parks?

White Sox, Cardinals, Mets and others have been honoring him.

Why in the world are teams he didn't even play for honoring him? Hell -- the Yankees shouldn't even have to honor him. They've already done so by paying him like a superstar the last couple years, while he has been anything but.

Congrats on a great career, but the only game he should be getting honored at is his last home game in NY.

Jeter announces retirement in February.

"This season isn't about me. I don't want to be a distraction."

How has Derek been a distraction?

You can't be serious.

He announced his retirement (just like Mariano) in fucking FEBRUARY!

If he "doesn't want to be a distraction" he plays the season out and goes quietly.

Let me guess...

"It's about the fans."

Dude, really? You're in the "Derek Jeter Strikeout Thread" telling us it's wrong to talk about Derek Jeter's strikeouts. :L

The timing was a bad call on his behalf, but then again the media in NY is relentless. Maybe he said "F it, I'll just announce my retirement now" instead of being repeatedly asked all season how much longer he's going to play.

The bottom line is Derek hasn't distracted anyone, let alone the Yankees. They're playing just fine and winning ball games.

I actually thought for a second you were going to be reasonable when you said this...

The timing was a bad call on his behalf

But then you had to go and ruin it with this...

The bottom line is Derek hasn't distracted anyone.

:L

CSD, you should check out the daily thread we have. It'd be fun to toss a Yankees fan into the mix. :suds:

This farewell tour is getting ridiculous. The would think that the best player ever was retiring. This has never happened before, then why now. He said he was retiring at the beginning of the season bc he knew he would get this attention. I lost a lot of respect for him.

Watch him not even retire or come out of retiring :laugh3:
