Glad to see Russia is taking the super series seriously. Not that the results matter, but for years Russia would send over a B team and would get annihilated by the CHL sides. But in 2010 Russia won the super series, last year they split the 6 games and it looks like the Russians are gonna put up a good fight again this year. If memory serves, Russia has never beaten an OHL squad in the super series.

Can't really say I'm surprised. The GTA just doesn't support junior hockey. A couple years back when Mississauga hosted game 7 of the OHL finals against Owen Sound, the Attack scored in OT to win it and it sounded like they were playing a home game. I know North Bay used to have the Centennials way back when, and I can't imagine that they'll do worse than Brampton now that they'll have an upgraded facility. Hopefully they re-brand the team with the relocation and do away with those god awful baby poop colored jerseys.

The Tigers need a new arena badly, I love the old barn, but it is antiquated. They could build a 7,000 seat arena with luxury suites and a proper restaurant/lounge and it will be filled every night.

Final score: RUS 6, QMJHL 2. Huberdeau and MacKinnon -4 on the night.

Yeesh.

My understanding is they asked the coach to play together. I doubt they'll play on the same line in game 2.

A new arena would allow the Tigers to host the Memorial Cup as well, something their fans deserve IMO after the great run of teams they've had the last decade or so.

How are the Sea Dogs looking this year?

The Q was ALL over the Russian team for the first 7 minutes.
balanced up for the next three, then one bad turnover (behind the back pass by MacKinnon at the blueline) gets buried.
a minute later another bad turnover (didn't see who, tried to clear his zone up the middle), 2-0 and game over.
Vasalevsky (goalie, TB prospect) was excellent
5th goal was a brutal giveaway by Q defense as well. right in the slot.
some emotion (cheap shots) at the end of the game, glad these are 2 game series'

Q never gave up though. Russia just buried its chances (and generated more chances :) ).

Not as good as the past few years. Gone to the AHL are the majority of the elite players, and they are at .500 which I suppose is pretty good for a team that finished 1st and went to the finals in each of the past 3 seasons. They refused to sell their future to go "all in" in any of those years, which I think was a mistake last year and arguablly cost them a 2nd consectuive Memorial Cup but that's why they are .500 and Shawinigan is the worst team in teh league. In fact, they actually had 2 1st round picks in the 2012 Q draft. The big question now is what they will be able to get in return during the trade period for Huberdeau and a few other decent veteran players leftover from the championship teams. If they get to trade Huberdeau (could depend on the NHL lockout situation) they could be back to the top for several years to come pretty soon.

With Spokane's win tonight, only Kamloops has more W's on the season than the Chiefs...

I loathe Everett, so it's nice to see the Chiefs beat them their last 2 games by a combined score of 9-0. Good times.

Well it's a better night tonight for the Q and the pair of Huberdeau and MacKinnon. The Q leads 3-1. The difference is a pair of goals for Huberdeau which were both assisted by MacKinnon. The funny thing is they were put on separate lines but the 1st goal was scored shortly after Huberdeau came out of the penalty box and the 2nd was on the PP. Yakupov has the goal for the Russians.

He does look pretty good out there, I gotta admit.

MacKinnon with a big PP goal in the 3rd period. 4-1 good guys.

Edit: It is indeed a big goal, cause Russia scores 30 seconds later to make it 4-2

Hey julian, what are your impressions of Ryan Culkin (Flames prospect)?

I can't say I'm too familiar with him. I only see the Remps 2 or 3 times a year. I'm really only familiar with the superstars from the Quebec based teams. He probably had to put up with a lot of Home Alone jokes growing up though so he likely has thick skin (or a high tolerance for lame jokes).

Apparently the final totals were 1 G, 3 A for each of the 2 Moosehead players, and 2G, 1 A for Huberdeau, for a total of 11 points. Might see those 3 together on a team/line full-time after the World Juniors if the lockout continues. If nothing else, this will certainly heat up the rumours of Huberdeau to Halifax after the World Juniors if there is still no NHL, and maybe even if there is. Halifax owns the expansion Sherbrooke's (who are currently in a race with Shawinigan for last in the Q) Euro pick. That would be a good place to start discussions of a trade for Huberdeau, but it certainly wouldn't be enough on it's own.

It's amazing what a couple of days rest and some practice can do. Most of these guys played Monday after playing Sunday for their regular team, including all 3 on the top line. I don't think too many OHL teams play on Wednesday nights and now they'll face the Russians in their 2nd game in 2 nights. Apparently this 15 year old phenom Connor McDavid who won't even be draft eligible until 2015, will be the guy to watch from the OHL.

I guess I was mistaken about Yakupov scoring for the Russians in the 1st. I was on the phone at that point and was only half paying attention, but I thought for sure that's what I saw. :L
