yea but that wasnt obstruction. it was players playing baseball fucking trying to make a play. maybe he should have just let the ball go into the outfield and put down roses alone the sideline for the runner to get to home. this is why baseball is a fucking pussy sport. gay shit like this happens and you back it like its no problem. even a retarded person knows that was absurd, why u defend it is humorous. the third baseman has a right to make a play for the ball. in that instant situation its not his fault the runner stumbled over him. hes trying to make a play. not trying to obstruct the runner. intentional or not that call should have never been made. the reverse of the situation is middlebrooks not making a play at all, letting the ball go by him and the runner goes free range towards home. thats absurd. he has to try and make the play. rules seem to favor the runner just give him a free ride towards home. not logical when trying to make a play.

You mad?

I agree on the judgement call - a lot of the rules in MLB have gray areas in it and it's discretionary - just because it is in the rules doesn't make it a stone cold rule where you have to call it or else - a lot of the calls these days involve the human element, so if they didn't call obstruction they shouldn't have been slammed for it

This rule specifically, the fact that they have the part where it doesn't matter if it is intentional or not, is a way to cover their ass up in spots like this so they can say they got the call right and that was what was in the rule book - this rule doesn't line up with the rest of the rules, quite frankly - if all the rules are going to be human element based, then they need to take the "it doesn't matter if it is intentional or not" part away from this specific rule

Worse part. the runner did not even see Middlebrooks laying there, he ran over him. Shitty way to lose a game....

Seems like a no win situation for Middlebrooks. He tries to get up, he gets called for it. He moves on the ground, he gets called for it.

Middlebrooks said the ump said he needed to get out of the way there and he thought he was 5 feet inside the basepath so he didn't really know what to do.

So, No racing under the white line, no speeding in pit row in racing....3 second rule, traveling or hitting of the arm in basketball...iceing in hockey, offsides in hockey or even soccer... the "in the grasp" rule in football, the roughing the passer or the pass interference calls that highly impact football games...are all what manly rules....just let them play it out, quit having so many touchy gay rules in other sports...and especially the "no yelling rule" in golf...or "no tantrum" rule in tennis...

hey, lets just stop having rules or rule books....lets just go with the "Thunderdome" rules....I like it.

I agree. Seems like this rule is all in favor of the runner, no matter what. Letting him have the choice of where his base path is? Seriously?? So if Middlebrooks was 3 feet away from him, he could chose to run over him and still get the call. LOL....Wasn't Joyce the one who blew that no hitter??? Nough said!

What are you talking about? I said the rule shouldn't be changed. The rule is totally a judgement call in this case and I feel like it shouldn't of been called in that moment. It had nothing to do with the rule except it being a judgement

My point is you're saying the correct call should not have been made. What other calls shouldn't be made? Why should a runner not be allowed to score, even though the rules say he should, when it decides a World Series game?

It was a no win for him (unless he got away with the obstruction). That's not the purpose of obstruction though. It's so that a player is awarded bases he would've gotten had the defensive player not been in his way. Middlebrooks slowed him down, regardless of whether there was anything he could do about it. If middle brooks was not there the run would've scored.

I feel like it wasn't the correct call. Again it is a damn judgement call which are stupid in the first place. What could Middlebrooks have done to avoid this call from happening?? Nothing. Which is stupid

Exactly. He was the one who blew the kids no hit bid. It was pretty sad and uncomfortable listening to him after the game. Him trying to explain why he called interference. His description doesn't match the way the play went down. The statement that he, Craig was on the chalk line trying to head home is way of base. So to speak.
