I still say he was exposed last year by John Chavis. Chavis is a defensive genius and gave the CFB world the recipe to BEAT TAMU and J FOOTBALL!

Its too bad Saban has too big an ego to ignore what Chavis had laid out just prior to bama playing him last season!

and Manziel would have been a Duck had Mariota not committed to Oregon. As soon as Kelly got Mariota he knew he wouldnt have the job over him. SO Johnny left.

I love both QBs. But Mariota will be a better pro in most peoples eyes.

While JF was largely considered a unknown coming out of HS, Kelly was one of the few after him from the get go.

Your take is homerific at best though, who says Mariota beats out JF knowing what we know now?

Homer opinion....

Manziel made everybody completely forget about Mariota last season.

How many multiple touchdown games did either one have against a quality D last year...Answer is 1...Manziel against Alabama...one on the play that he fumbled the ball to himself...and there's your heisman winner....padded stats and lukewarm big game performances.

Neither one is capable of running a 'pro' style offense...lucky for them, there are fewer and fewer 'pro' style offenses. So, they both probably get drafted early.

There is no question Mariota can run a pro style offense. He is a prototype to run it. Just because he is fast and is currently running a zone read doesnt mean he CANT run a pro style. He is a large QB at 6'4" 220.

He has an extremely accurate arm and has a cannon for an arm. One doenst need to have stone feet to be a good pro style QB.

That doesn't always mean he's gonna work in a pro style offense, though. There's a huge difference between the reads you have to make in a spread and in a pro style, and when you aren't running the spread, you're sitting in the pocket more, which leaves you more vulnerable to pressure, which isn't something he dealt with much last year, so it's hard to say.

Not saying he couldn't, I'm just saying there's no way to say either way right now.

Rolltide, get your frustration. Both these guys don't play in a pro-style offese, but niether do 75% of the QBs that will be drafted next year. Don't get me wrong, the ideal guys measurments haven't changed. Still want 6'4"+, strong arm, but if if you can't pick up 8 when you get outside of the your "O" tackle or step up inside of their "D" tackle you are not ideal. Typical "prostyle" is vanishing at the "pro" level in a gradual but connsistant way. Based on your last sentence, I think you get that.

It is fun to watch this thing evolve over the last 30+ years. In 2018 the prototype is 6'7", throws a ten and out from the far stripe with less than an 8 ft. arc, and runs a 4.5 40.

I can't wait. It's gonna be like watching your created player in NCAA.

That was a good call by Chavis on defense. He split the OLBs/DEs out to get containment on Maziel & double coverend Evans. This kept Manziel from beating LSU. However, there were yards to be made running between the tackles. Sumlin or Kingsbury didn't make the adjustment. I was going absolutely ape about A&M not running the ball. the way the defense was set, it was a free 5 yards an attempt and more if the RB made a move, broke a tackle, or got a down field block.

I think you will see some teams use that defense this year against A&M. Sumlin has to make the adjustment and use the RBs and Manziel has to throw the ball ball to someone other than Evans when the defense takes him away.

It doesn't sound like Manziel is just a casual drinker who likes to have fun from time to time, it sounds and appears Manziel drinks hard and it has gotten in the way of some work. He was past out not just once at this Manning passing camp.

Peyton said he would love to have Manziel back next year and that Eli missed some meetings in his day too. I think that is being blown out of proportion.

As is this logic. 32 teams and 5 starters that size. Almost 85% are larger. Only 1 has had continued success through out his career.

Romo, Ponder and oh wait Rodgers are all also 6'2". Height isn't that important.

I think Johnny can run a pro style system. I mean he was recruited by Tom Rossley who was the QB coach for Brett Favre and latter the offensive coordinator for the Packers before he became the QB coach at A&M.

who in next years draft will be in need of a QB? As the teams stands right now, is there any NFL team that is still searching for a QB? Just wondering, because that team would pick a QB first round, and it might have to be the 3rd or 4th team looking for a QB because I see Bridgewater, McCaron going before him.

If a team takes McCarron in the 1st they will be a top 5 team for a few years. McCarron isn't an NFL QB.

He's like Tebow honestly. You have the people who thought he could be an NFL QB and then people like me that actually understand football and are realistic. I thought Newton would fall on his face though, so I guess you never know. I'd say right now it's a little too early to tell, but I'm leaning towards him not being successful.

Please enlighten me what is keeping Manziel from being a NFL QB?

Truly puzzled by those that honestly believe Manziel to be an NFL QB.

Even the success of guys like Newton, RGIII, and Wilson have yet to play out and they all have a much better ability to throw a football. Not only stronger arms, but more accurate, and with serious NFL ability.

I've stated this before, but an NFL QB is about delivering strikes to players in precise routes while in the pocket. When Johnny can deliver a strike on a 15 yard out that is on a stripe, I'll perk up and pay attention. When Johnny can deliver a post on a stripe over a LB and under a Safety put in perfect unison with the intended target, I'll take notice.

Sorry. Haven't seen either. And those are the throws that display true arm strength. It also wouldn't hurt to see him throw a go route for 40 or + yards which Sumlin does like to run but hasn't with Manziel.

The real question NFL teams have to ask themselves is whether Manziel can win football games from the pocket. Because legit NFL QB's win football games by throwing the football from the pocket. Period. Newton, RGIII, and Wilson all have the ability to beat teams by throwing the football from the pocket. Can Manziel? I have serious doubts he can, and serious doubts about his true arm strength.

lol you obviously have never watched him play.

Manziel wanted to party in Austin at a Longhorn frat house. It didn't happen he was asked to leave and escorted out. Guess his girlfriend isn't giving him what he wants.
