As with most things, it depends. I bought a refurbished MacBook Pro for something like a $350!discount as compared to a new one from Apple. The thing was basically brand new so I’m happy. It’s also entirely SSD so it’s not like I’m period about wear and tear on moving parts, though it’s not like there was any true wear and tear anyways.

What are you looking to do? If you are just bullshitting around on the web and checking Emails you can get a Chromebook brand new for 200 bucks.

Not all referbs are created equal. The source you are buying it from does somewhat matter. Getting one directly from the manufacturer can be different than the ones available from 3rd party sites.

In general, refurbs typically have to pass as many or more tests than new and are less prone to being DOA or failing within a short time of operation.

You are still rolling the dice as some refurbs only have a 90 day warranty or often less than a year anyway.

If they offer is good enough and you aren't worried about being stuck with a dead machine out of warranty in less than 3 years then by all means go for it. If you need your devices to be covered to prevent outlay of extra cash over the next 3+ years then spend a little more and sleep better at night.

I get all kinds of refurb things, but mainly monitors and electronics more than PC's or laptops and I've had a lot of good experience with them.

Are they worth it? I mean I am looking around and it seems like even refurbished laptops are pricey these days.

I a just saying in general refurbished, not a specific brand or anything like that

Dell Business Outlet has great deals and you get a 1 year warranty.

Some are scratch/dent, most are business leases.

Do it.

Wifey is doing a lot of charity work lately. So, I went on thar and bought her a decent Ispriron scratch and dent for 300 bucks. She needs a disk drive in it.

Well, I go to check out and find thar's a sale be going on. It ended up being 240 bucks.

The bitch with a new laptop is you have to put Office on it. I'll try to figure a way to beg or steal another upload from MSFT because Imma' cheap fucker.

Eesh that's a slow hard drive. If possible you'll want to put her an SSD in there if she's doing anything media intensive (movies, etc). It will probably be a bit slow to start and run some programs.

Office these days is rough...it's hard to find a standalone install that isn't a million fucking dollars. Office 365 isn't a bad deal at $5 a month (and up). If you have a version you've already purchased, just find an installer (pre-2010 is best, if 2013 or newer it's more than likely tied to a Microsoft Account they had you create) and use the activation code you already have. If you don't know it, you can run BELARC ADVISOR on the computer where it is installed and it may show it to you depending on what version it is.

It's for a WOMAN. How fast to you think she can think?? Any faster would confuse and scare her.

Yeah, but she'll want it to be fast enough to play the videos I send her of me using tnapucco's grandpa's Fleshlight.

I'll sell you a Fleshlight.
The actual real fleshlight, or one of those generic knockoffs? Either way, how much? And will you throw in the half used free sample of lube it came with?

There are also productivity suites for Google Chrome that allow you to work with Microsoft created documents, spreadsheets, etc.
