Football could be on the chopping block at Eastern Michigan University.
HBO revealed Tuesday that the athletic department has lost $52 million over the past two years, while ranking last in FBS football attendance. And on Wednesday, the Eagles' administration admitted it's been re-evaluating the program for a while now.
"We have been thinking about and analyzing our overall academic and athletic expenditures for at least the last several months," Eastern Michigan regent Jim Stapleton told CBS Detroit. "Any decisions made won't be because of HBO. You don't have to be Kirk Herbstreit or Desmond Howard to know we have a problem with our football program."
An Eastern Michigan economics professor dropped an estimate that's pretty damning evidence as to why the program should be disbanded. The professor claims students pay an annual athletic tax of $1,000 per year for a football team that hasn't posted a winning season in more than 20 years.

According to the Pine Bluff (Ark.) Commercial, David Beasley was one of four men arrested early Saturday morning after another male was allegedly shot during the course of a robbery outside of a convenience store. “Beasley, 18, is allegedly the person who shot the 20-year-old victim, Police Detective Mike Sweeney said in a probable cause affidavit that was presented in district court Monday,” the Commercial wrote. The alleged victim picked Beasley out of a photo lineup and identified him as the shooter.
Beasley has been charged with first-degree battery and aggravated robbery, both of which are felonies.
