Late last week, as relayed by the New Orleans Times-Picayune, LSU defensive backDonte’ Jackson ran a blistering 6.66-second 60-meter dash in what was called his first collegiate race, a time that was two-hundreths of a second out of first in the finals but still good for third place. While it wasn’t a winning effort, it is the fastest time posted by a college football player this year.

Auburn and Illinois complete swap of transferring defensive linemen

President spent the last three years with Auburn but he will be eligible for his final season of college football right away. NCAA rules allow graduate transfers to be eligible to play right away if they transfer to another FBS program. He will get a chance to step right in to provide Illinois with some needed depth on defense. As it just so happens, Auburn turned out to be the destination for former Illinois linebackerT.J. Neal as he weighed his transfer options just last week.

Pair of Mississippi State players see injuries cut careers short

Injuries are a part of the game, and unfortunately that means game over far too soon for a number of young college football players. Such is the case at Mississippi State. Tight endGus Walley and offensive lineman Jake Thomas are reportedly no longer with the Bulldogs, and it does not appear they will be continuing their football careers elsewhere.

Arkansas adds former Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads to staff

Former Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads is on his way back to a college football sideline in 2016. Arkansas announced Wednesday Rhoads has been added to the football staff, where he will take on the role of defensive backs coach for the Razorbacks and head coach Bret Bielema.

OU hires Kansas assistant, former Sooner Calvin Thibodeaux as d-line coach

Faced with a staff opening, Bob Stoops turned to one of his own to fill it. On Wednesday Oklahoma announced former Sooner Calvin Thibodeaux will return to Norman to serve as defensive line coach.

Miami TE Jerome Washington announces transfer

Miami tight end Jerome Washington will not return to Coral Gables and seeks to ply his craft elsewhere, the program announced Wednesday.

Washington, a rising sophomore, appeared in nine games in 2015, but did not record a statistic. He arrived to the U by way of Mercer County Community College.

Transfer of Jordan Davis leaves Texas A&M with zero TEs on scholarship

Texas A&M’s depth at the tight end position just got a bit more shallow. Jordan Davisannounced, via Twitter, he will be leaving the program and seeking an opportunity to play elsewhere in 2016.

Miami linebacker Marques Gayot leaves Hurricanes for other opportunities

Miami junior linebacker Marques Gayot is leaving the program, the school announced Thursday. Gayot will pursue other opportunities, the school said, which is one way to say he will look to transfer to another program. Should Gayot transfer to another FBS school, he will be forced to sit out the 2016 season before he may be eligible to play again.
