Why? It's not like LSU hasn't been knocking on the door, if they didn't have to play in our division, last year would not have been their first CFP. I would include LSU before I would include Texas, or Texas A&M or Florida or Auburn or USC or Washington, or Meatchicken or Penn State. Their last two classes were #5 and #4. Sure, they lost a lot, but the cupboard isn't bare. Those others have hardly proved they can make it to a CFP, let alone win one.
Yeah, if LSU had honored the forward pass prior to the past two years, they'd have been hell to beat by anyone. Bob Stoops said something similar many years ago. Something like "Lord help us all if LSU ever decides to throw the ball."

Stop it, prior to the 2019 season, people were still making fun of the Ogre and his failed OCs. Which season did they even come close since..2011? This stuff comes in cycles and some other team can come out of nowhere and make the CFP that didn't make that list.

BTW I think FL is pretty close to doing something similar if Mullen can get the QB and offense right. They are solid enough on defense to make a run

LOL, The year before that they finished 6th in the country and outside of our game they lost to Florida by a TD and Texas A&M is 7 overtimes. 2016 they started off #5 and lost 4 games by a total of 23 points. They've been in the top 10 at some point during the season every year except one since they played for the 2011 title.

Like I said, their track record is better than any of the teams I mentioned with the exception of Washington if you exclude the 2019 season. None of those other teams have sniffed a title. Has Texas even got a wiff of a big 12 title?

I dunno. I would take Oregon over that second set. also Oregon has been to 2 championship games and while they didnt win the statement of "certainly guaranteed not to win it all" seems a bit too sure of themselves
Well Auburn proved you dead wrong last year.
Auburn proved Washington dead wrong the year before.

When are you guys going to send us the PAC Championship trophies that we earned BTW?

I agree. Oregon and Wisconsin are 2 schools that have a >0 chance of winning nattys without making the list.
Actually Wisky just needs to get lucky with a QB and they could easily make a run with a little luck. Not going to do it year in and year out but it wouldn't surprise me to see them in the playoffs at some point.

Auburn won the national championship in 1957 and 2010. Where's your trophy?

Sure we can talk about that.

well sure ok lets see
2019 college football Rankings for Week 16 | ESPN

the final rankings for the playoff had Oregon at 6 and Auburn at 12. if the top 4 teams are in then Oregon was closer.

Yes, because of the coronavirus. Teams could lose key players for long periods of time. Who, I don't know. But I'm predicting two surprise teams in the playoffs.

I'm starting to doubt this season in the fall.. kids are testing positive reporting to summer condition workouts at Texas high schools..

Kicked by a true freshman in his first game.

Abbot hasn't seen anything like the pressure he'll receive from Austin Westlake, Lake Travis and Southlake Carroll parents if their teams don't get to play. They'll make the Longhorn and Aggie pressure groups look like amatuer lobbyists.

what's funny is NOBODY would have lumped LSU with that group a year ago. Now they belong? There will be another surprise team to jump into that group.
I am not sure about that ... LSU last year really could be a one-off thing. First, you had a QB that went from being okay to the best QB season in the history of college football. Add to that they had 14 players drafted - 14. That's an unreal number and means a ton of those guys had career years. Lost of things lined up perfectly for LSU last year. I can't see anyone close to that this year.

Clemson is an anomaly. Not only have it's evaluations been nails despite the recruiting rankings, they don't have attrition. Their kids along the OL stay 5 seasons. Now they may not be world beaters individually (the NFL draft has shown that), however developing these players to get the best out of them in seasons 4/5 in the program is amazing.
In addition to what you say, they have overcome terrible roster management. Clemson's numbers in 2017 and 2018 classes were they had only 14 and 17 players. That's 31 in 2 years when the norm would be to take 50. That's like giving yourself self-imposed penalties and scholarship reductions. And, it's hard to catch up. In 2019 and 2020 they had 29 and 23. The luck they have had with no serious injuries or attrition is incredible. It helps that they play in the ACC, but the 2017 and 2018 classes may catch up with them over the next 3 years unless they continue to get lucky with injuries. Their 2020 class was really, really good, but the 2019 was just ranked 10th. The 2017, 2018, 2019 classes could be problematic in the future.

History leans toward the idea that no team outside this group can win a natty...in today's world.
