Your settings make no sense and I have never heard of this. Standard playoffs for a 12 man league is either 6 teams get in, and 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. Or you just do 4 teams, with two week rounds.
how doesn't it make sense? i admit i typed in error that the #3 seed played the #7 seed when in actuality it was the #2 vs #7. its 1 extra playoff team then the "standard"

how many times do you put up 150pts which would be good enough for a win against anyone else in your league but you just happen to be playing the 1 guy that put up 155pts? is that really truly determining the better fantasy player?

I get what you're saying but sometimes that the way the NFL works.
Certain teams get hot late. Those are the teams that are most dangerous.

Sounds like you need to give your top team (or top 2 teams) a 1st round bye perhaps?

thats true to some extent but in fantasy you have zero control on how your players preform on the field. in the nfl well teams and players can control how they preform.

i figure if your team can navigate convincingly through a 13 game regular season and finish 9-4 head to head that you deserve more then a 1 and done playoff game in round 1.

maybe out of the first round playoff games you just do a round robin based on points? this way if your team doesn't "show up" you could still possibly sneak by onto the second round and then well if your team doesn't show up your out of luck?

If you are afraid of not having luck. Then draft him next year as your number one QB

It makes sense, as far as it technically works. I've just never heard of it. It's a strange format. There isn't a single playoff format in all of major sports that has an odd number of teams in its tournament.

Okay... updating mine.

Week 14
A...1v2 - winner gets bye to week 17
B...5v6 - loser is eliminated
C...3v4 - winner gets 3 point advantage for rematch

This gives everyone but the loser of 5v6 a second shot.

Week 15
D....Loser of A vs Winner of B
E....C rematch (with spread)

This gives C winner a deserved edge, and C loser second shot. A loser and B winner deserve no advantage/penalty.

Week 16
F.....D winner vs E winner
G.....A winner sets lineup.... outscore F winner, get a 7 point advantage.

This gives A winner a bye and a "free" week to gain a deserved advantage for the championship.

Week 17
T.J. Houshmandzedah (with possible spread)

Don't like week 17? Bump it all back a week.

Or just keep it the norm and have a payout for points leader at regular season end.

I have tried to get the MBBRLers into it when we set for the dynasties... I of course failed... not surprisingly... it was probably considered one of my MILKIAN ideas... MILKIAN= CRAZY according to @TREFF

Doubt it was TREFF though, I'm pretty sure his main money goofy scoring league goes into week 17. Now, that league I'm playing in that goes into week 21 or 22 (can't remember off hand), that is turning into a major mind fuck.

Yes my main money league has its finals week 17..always have, no one has ever complained, most openly love it.

And I wouldn't call a 2 week final in 16 & 17 "Milkian crazy", but I do thinks it's stupid. one game, one week. ridiculous to go from that all year long to a 2 week contest as a finale. dumb, dumb dumb. let's have Hussain Bolt run sprint heats at 100 yards, but win he goes for the gold he's gotta do 200...dumb

I'm kinda liking the 2 week deal this year in the one league I do that in, but I have to admit, if I had to try and beat the team I have this year in 2 weeks, I'd be kinda pissed so I can see that.

How about this CRAZY IDEA for a solution:

Playoffs still include H2H matchups, but if you don't at least score your season average, you can't advance.
If no teams reach their average score... then they all advance.

And one of my leagues does run playoffs into week 17. No one seems phased by it.

Makes more sense... But again 78 points scored, so he cant really complain about losing... with that score he would have lost to MOST playoff teams IMO... or atleast deserved to lose...

I disagree.

2 seed deserved a bye on the strength of his entire season. The 6-7 team should have been at home watching. No reason for 7 of 12 teams to make the playoffs. It rewards mediocrity. In a 13 team league, should be 6 or 4. Otherwise, why even play the regular season?

That penalizes the best teams.

Say your team averages 120 and mine 100. Your team gets 115 and mine gets 110. Under your suggestion, your team would be eliminated and mine would advance simply because your team was better. Makes no sense.

Just trying to think outside the box.
Was just a suggestion.
I'm not in favor of it.

I still hold to the opinion that some teams get hot late.
If they have a worse record yet still win in the playoffs.... oh well.
That's football!!

If records and scoring prowess (total points) is the biggest reason for wanting change cause they don't want to lose to inferior teams, then just don't have a playoff.

Best team with the highest points wins the league.
But then you can expect teams with worse records and low points to probably lose interest fast.

in the example i gave the guy that lost finished with 3 more wins and almost 300 more points over the course of the season his team is clearly better compared to the one that beat him but since he has no control over the players on the field hes just told too bad? believe me ive been on both ends of that but why do we have to just "deal with it"?

i know people will say just play roto total point style not head to head. problem is head to head is the most fun system in place. there has to be a compromise somehow
That's where you lose me. The best team doesn't always win the title in sports, much less fantasy sports.

And H2H is fun because anybody can win and anybody can lose.

If you're talking 12 teams I like the idea of 3 divisions of 4 with 4 (or 6) teams in the playoffs. 7 makes no sense.

YES, I READ THE WHOLE THREAD AND LOVE SEEING THE BRAINSTORMING...

This is always a great topic two part if you ask me. (Which no one did.)
1. How to get the best teams in the playoffs.
2. How to get the best championship game.

I hope someone reads this because I have spent 11 years on our 12 person league working on a system that rewards skill over luck. Now stop all those thoughts right now. Yes, luck will always have a role (or should I call the word luck---shit, who knew, damn, shake my head.) But it is our duty as a smart, caring, and loving Commish to look luck in the eyes and think of ways to lessen luck. That is all we can do and that is all the owners want. Less luck and more skill aka talent being reflected. That mission I took on. Thank you!

Here is our current system. I will explain before your wondering eyes go any further.

Read the cliff notes:
*Playoffs start week 13 (Don't freak out, it's cool.)
**We have a toilet bowl for 6 owners who didn't make it into the big boy playoffs with trophy and cash to the winner. That system pretty much mirrors this but their rank comes from total team points for the final 4 weeks of the season thus owners play hard till the very end. (Right on!)
A) We are a league of 3 divisions, each has 4 owners in it.
B) 6 out of 12 owners make the playoffs.
C) You win the division you get automatic playoff birth.
D) Division winners make up 3 of 6 spots.
E) 3 wild card spots come from power ranking rank.
(*Power rank is h2h record pts, total pts, overall record breakdown pts. If you play in a league without a power ranking please come out of the stone age.)
F) We have 2 byes. These go to the 2 of 3 division winners, top 2 overall breakdown of these 3 get the byes.
G) Now 3 v 6 and 4 v 5.
H) 1 gets lowest remaining and 2 plays the other.

Thanks for reading the above cliff notes. Below is more detail. Blow your freakin mind baby, blow it!!!

**Making the Playoff Rules** Jason Rule.
Division Winner and Power Ranking determine who is in the Playoffs.

1. Each division winner (best record) is guaranteed to make the playoffs.
1B. Tie for best record in the division is solved by total offensive team points scored in division match up games only, own division highest total points scored against, breakdown total league wins.
1C. The above will give us our 3 of 6 spots into the playoffs.
2. Wild Card teams are determined by the Power Ranking System.
2B. Power Ranking will put teams in order from best to worst 1-12.
2C. Top 3 teams ranked by the power ranking system other then Division Winners will earn the playoff spots.
2D. Power Ranking Ties between teams are settled by Breakdown total league wins, total team points, highest total points scored against.
3. At which point all 6 teams will then be put in 1-6 (best to worse seed) order.
3B. Seed order is determined by the following: Breakdown total league wins, total team points, highest total points scored against.
4. The top 2 of the 3 division winners will get the first round byes. (Lyles rule)
4B. Seed order for (rule 4) byes are determined by the following: Breakdown total league wins, total team points, highest total points scored against.
4C. Thus seeds 1 and 2 receive the bye. First round would be 3 vs. 6 and the other match up is 4 vs. 5.
5. Second round is the 1 seed vs. the lowest remaining seed and the 2 seed plays the other remaining team.
6. Winners of the Second round advance into Back Yard Football Championship!
6B. Losers of the 2nd round play each other the following week and the winner gets 3rd place.
6C. Highest seed remaining in the (6.) match up will get home field.
7. On this day the Champion is Crowned and then God rested as this was good :)

NOW IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR TAKE A BREAK. BUT COME BACK IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

So this toilet bowl playoff season I beta tested two new systems so the league can see them play out. We are half stuck in our ways like the rest of you fantasy heads. Anyways...
Beta 1:
Total Points for all 3 weeks with the highest point total being the winner. (Yes, I know why effin go total points in the playoffs when in regular season you play h2h and use the awesome power ranking system.)
True. It's beta test, chill. I hear you.

Beta 2:
Total Points for first 2 weeks of the playoffs, with the highest two point total teams for those two weeks playing each other in the Championship. Thus adding a bit more fantasy stat behind it with that sprinkle of h2h and syrup of the total points, topped with whip cream of the power rank. Now is that gonna taste good or what...? IDK it is beta and our league hasn't looked at deep enough to vote. Might beta again next season. But I will update when season is done. Thx.

Side note (if you are tired of reading stop.)
I did read on this thread and can't recall who posted about the All-Star division lineup challenge. We have been doing that for a long while now. I think I posted about that so not sure if you got that from me or not. Either way I'm glad to see another league use that. Our league loves it. Each week 4 of the season we do it and the division owners really bond and cheer for their division to win it. We also reward the division winner. Good stuff man!

@MilkSpiller22 playoffs are not normal. If so power ranking would be the norm which it is not. 3 of our 6 playoff teams come from power rank.

Week 13 playoffs: added insurance to ensure playoff rosters are at full peak not chancing any NFL teams resting players and we can't control injuries but further you play into the season possible injury(s) continue to pile on.
And finally less is more. Which the nfl got away from that golden ticket by playing crap Thursday night games.

Thanks for your time.
