Week 16

The two winners

Week 17

1v2 winner (week 14) vs week 16 winner.

Optional: week 16, the team on a bye gets a point advantage IF they can outscore the winner of the game that week.

there is a lot of luck that goes into FF as well. I one league, I finished 3rd in points but 8th in the standings because of H2H

yeah i see that all the time and that is really unfortunate but unless you scrap h2h all the way then there is no way avoiding that. getting bounced round 1 of the playoffs because your team which made you a ton of points all year long doesnt' show up would leave a bad taste in my mouth. its all pure luck but still you want to kinda level the influence of luck when your in the playoffs.

How about a no H2H playoff.

This is how it works.

All teams make it to the playoffs
The top 2 teams get a bye week 14 and 15

Week 14- all remaining teams get their week 14 scores ranked from highest to lowest. The 2 lowest scores get eliminated

Week 15- same process as week 14. Last 2 teams get eliminated

Week 16- same process. But only the top 2 teams survive

Week 17- the final 2 teams entire playoff scores are measured(week 14-17). Whoever has the highest playoff score wins

Bye week automatically equals the highest point total that week If higher than their score that week.

I like the H2H match ups. It makes it more fun. Playing any of the other suggested ways is a lot more boring. Why not just draft a team and whoever has the most points at the end of the year wins if you don't like the playoffs?

Not suggesting it really. Just brainstorming and giving options for which this thread is about. New ways to do playoffs.

I get the frustration over single elimination playoffs, but those are just the breaks. You lose and you're out. I've been on both sides. ESPNs is a little difference. 4 teams make the playoffs and it's 2 week matchups. The only drawback to it is they play into week 17 so if your best players are on teams that clinched, you're at a disadvantage.

I don't think you should mess with the integrity of fantasy style you are playing. If you're doing H2H you should keep doing it in the playoffs. If you're playing roto type fantasy, then you probably don't even need playoffs.

I've finished first in points and not made the playoffs. I finished 7th in points one year, only made the playoffs due to division seeding, and I won. It sucks cuz you really only have control of half of the outcome and even then you really don't have much control of that 50%.

Yeah, that looks pretty crazy to me. My main money league is divided into 3 divisions where the top 2 teams in each go to the playoffs and the top 2 seeds get a bye. The one downfall (well, not IMO but lots of guise don't like this) is that we play into week 17.

EDIT: And since this is a H2H league, points and all-play don't matter until we get into tie breakers.
Divisions in fantasy are useless to me. It just screws things up.

Week 14
#1 vs #2 - Winner gets a bye. Loser stays.

#5 vs #6 - Loser is gonzo. Winner plays loser of 1v2.

#3 vs #4 - Winner gets a one point advantage for rematch.

Week 15
Loser of 1v2 vs winner of 5v6

3v4 rematch

Week 16
TJ Houshmandzedah
Only 1 point advantage? Why not just take the aggregate or just give them a bye. A 1 point advantage is close to useless.

I only dislike your post if I don't like your playoff method. It's nothing personal.

Well I actually love it. You play each team in division twice and all others once. We also have an all star game where the division winner sets a line up consisting of players from the teams within the division and the teams in the winning division get $25 each. Also, division with the most wins out of your division get $25 per team. I'm really digging it this year as my team sucked ass, but we won both the All Star Game and Division wins..........

Usually divisions suck. That sounds pretty awesome though.

We do shit like that to keep all interested for the entire 17 weeks. Weekly high score gets $20 and after week 14 teams that didn't make the playoffs will still hit the wire and put line ups in at a shot for the money. It's a good league, with a couple of shithead owners, but still good. Over 30 years old.

We had complaints in one league that TOO many teams were sneaking into the playoffs. (We had 7 of 12.)
So we decided to just go with division winners. (4 teams)
The NEW problem is that now we have teams that won't make the playoffs even though they have BETTER records than some division winners.

Personally, I don't see a problem. Fantasy football is supposed to emulate the NFL.
And the NFL has similar issues.
Someone will always be unhappy.

Maybe next year, we will introduce 2 wild cards as well.

Or maybe make it up to 2 wild card teams... with the stipulation that the wild card has to have a winning record. A 5-9 or 6-8 team should not be allowed to enter the playoffs UNLESS they're a division winner.

thats true to some extent but in fantasy you have zero control on how your players preform on the field. in the nfl well teams and players can control how they preform.

i figure if your team can navigate convincingly through a 13 game regular season and finish 9-4 head to head that you deserve more then a 1 and done playoff game in round 1.

maybe out of the first round playoff games you just do a round robin based on points? this way if your team doesn't "show up" you could still possibly sneak by onto the second round and then well if your team doesn't show up your out of luck?

in the example i gave the guy that lost finished with 3 more wins and almost 300 more points over the course of the season his team is clearly better compared to the one that beat him but since he has no control over the players on the field hes just told too bad? believe me ive been on both ends of that but why do we have to just "deal with it"?

how many times do you put up 150pts which would be good enough for a win against anyone else in your league but you just happen to be playing the 1 guy that put up 155pts? is that really truly determining the better fantasy player?

i know people will say just play roto total point style not head to head. problem is head to head is the most fun system in place. there has to be a compromise somehow

12 team where 7 teams get in and the top team gets a bye. the #7 guy with a 6-7 record and 1388pts made the playoffs and took out the #3 team who was 9-4 with 1616 points on the year.

score of the game was 95-78. we have all been there i'm sure but damn thats gotta sting! there has to be a better way of doing the playoffs. i mean what the hell is the point of even building a strong team when you can sneak into the playoffs and win on any given day.

i came up with an idea at work today. the playoff teams can face off in a 4 week playoff that is strictly based on total points for starting lineups over those 4 weeks. too extreme? you could give top 2 teams a bye and the 3/6 4/5 teams face off in a "regular" wild card style play in game then the 4 teams left could go into a 3 week total starting lineup based points playoff?

Your settings make no sense and I have never heard of this. Standard playoffs for a 12 man league is either 6 teams get in, and 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. Or you just do 4 teams, with two week rounds.
