The Struggle For The Spurs And The Lakers

The San Antonio Spurs recently somehow lost to the New York Knicks 130-118. The Los Angeles Lakers have also lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 110-105. The Lakers fall down to 11th in the NBA Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Spurs fall down to 8th in the NBA Western Conference. What kind of games were those?!!? The Spurs lost to the likes of the Knicks! This is stupid! This is war! New York is one of the most terrible teams currently in the NBA! Los Angeles now has a bitter chance of going to the playoffs. How?! Even for LeBron James!?

I saw that Spurs game, yeah losing to the Knicks is really something. Could this be the end of their dominant run of the past couple decades? they are right now in 8th, just 1 game up on the Kings.

I dont know about that exactly.
Their roster issue really has nothing to do with old guys. It is the young guys who all got hurt this season.

They currently dont have a single player who can play backcourt defense.
Spurs planned 2019 to be Ginobili/Murray/White. That is an elite defensive group.

Murray goes down for the season. Ginobili unexpectedly retired.
White was still holding it together though. But, the margin was super thin and then he got hurt.

The current swoon coincides with this last injury to White....no surprise their defense sucks again.

The Spurs were scorching red hot prior to his injury.
He goes down, they are on a 1-7 slide.
He tried to play the last games, but clearly he cannot move and is not ready at all.

Personally, I don't see the Lakers making the playoffs. Even if they won all of the remaining games, the other teams ahead of them would have to start losing a lot - It would be more productive for the Lakers to tank it and go for a better draft pick

The spurs will need a season or two to figure things out I think losing Leonard caught them off guard they probably were not expecting to trade him away and he was going to be the foundation of the team for a while
