Not sure how that's applicable. From my understanding, the tax apron hard cap is triggered by using the non-taxpayer MLE (Lakers will be taxpayers), using the bi-annual exception, or acquiring a player thru sign and trade. Reaves doesn't apply to any of those. Just sounds like they won't be acquiring a S&T player or using the bi-annual (approx $4.5M).

I believe They’d have to use the big mle to keep him

That’s what the arenas rule allows them to do

I don't believe they actually use that MLE to keep him, that rule just limits his offer to that amount (used as a reference). Otherwise, being a taxpayer would prevent the Lakers from being able to retain Reaves. His limited Early Bird rights under the Arenas rule allow the signing.

Keep in mind that any team offering Reaves a contract to force the Lakers hand will need around $20M in cap space to do so. That will cut the suitors down considerably. That cuts it down to 10 other teams, mostly rebuilding teams (and that number is a lot smaller if those teams don't do everything possible to get to that cap space; the Lakers are also projected to have nearly $30M in cap space, which we know would take razing the earth to get to). The only team CURRENTLY with enough cap space is Houston (no moves needed).

When Russell plays like that as their #3.....the Lakers are really tough to beat.

DRus didn't show-up much last night and Walker looked pedestrian. I guess they all want to finish it at home or they will be done. Don't know why Beasley is not playing or Brown Jr.

Russell was solid. Wasn't his fault we lost.

In the bubble we had Rondo.....with James almost 39 we need another PG.

CP makes us older but he makes a lot of sense. For 25mpg or so.....he can run the offense and relieve Bron of those duties a little and he can shoot......he is a better option than Russell......for say the mini MLE or so.

Let Russell walk.....bring back Habachi, Reaves, and let Beasley go.....along with TBJ and Walker. Go sign a few vets for the minimum and bring back Schroder. He a good backup with CP and Reaves as the starting guards.

Definitely re-sign Reaves and Hachimura. Truth to tell I was always a fan of the Lakers getting younger and home growing their talent. That's just me, though...

CP3 is almost impossible to rely on for a playoff run; getting injured is his brand. I'm hesitant to spend more than a vet min (maybe the bi-annual at most).

Can't let Russell walk; that salary is lost otherwise. Either sign him back on a decent deal or S&T. I'm not one to take his last 4 games and ignore his first 29 with the team.

Re-sign Reaves and Rui as whatever the market will allow. Re-sign Russell and Bamba for less (about $20M per and $5M per respectively). Use the big MLE on Naz Reid. Use the bi-annual on either CP3, Schroder or Jevon Carter. Draft Hawkins at #17, another roster spot kept for #47. 2 more spots with vet mins, keep 1 open.

What a talent the Lakers found. Pelinka is really developing into a good, solid GM.
