I was under the impression that the opening offer was somewhere in the range of 4 year, 80mil. That sounds like a very reasonable deal.

Assuming the report is correct, that would be on top of the existing year on his contract, so it would be 5-16.

Right, Seattle STARTS the negotiating around 16.3m/yr and his agent starts around 24m/yr. Both are outside of reasonable range.

So some of you are concerned or surprised by either/both? Ever seen a high stakes negotiation before?

Likely going to come somewhere right down the middle between them.

You have to add his existing year still left. It's 16.3m/yr which is why they are calling it Dalton/Kraperstink type money.

What makes you think RW agent started at 24m/yr? I think the agent is looking at what Joe Flacco is going to be making the next couple of years as the bench mark.

Nice use of "short" in the thread title.

Thought I saw 4yr/120m from his camp? :noidea: When added to this season's salary and all that it works out to 24.3m/yr over 5 years.

He's going to end up closer to 100/4 and I think that's right around what everyone expected to begin with. It's how long is this dance going to last before they both get there?

I see, I forgot to add RW salary for 2015, so We actually agree on the starting point. Going to be a long dance IMO.

If he really is the team friendly guy people want/expect him to be, the dance will last until the week before camp starts and no later. That is unless the team really is trying to undercut him farther than he is ever going to accept.

My take on RW is that he's all business and as we know business is about the $. I hope your right and I'm wrong.

Yep. And I think that would make it a fair deal for both sides. But, RWs agent is obviously wanting it at 20 mil per year for 5 years.

That's where the disconnect is and we'll see how long they intend to drag this out. Eventually a deal will get done. Considering his endorsement deals have made him a very rich man already, hopefully it can be worked out and not break our cap.

He wants to get paid, there's no doubt about that. I'm sure he feels far more worth than the entry offer as well he should. What he ends up taking, and when he takes it will tell us a lot. If it's a dime over 20m/yr he's about himself and his payday. Just my 2c.

Sure it is about himself. I think RW thinks highly of his skills and as a business man wants what the market will bear. I'm guessing 100m/ 4yrs is what it's going to take at the end. Sounds expensive right now, but just wait until the Colts have to sign Luck to a extension.

100/4 sounds expensive, but given how much the cap has been climbing over recent years it may not be nearly as bad as some think by the time those numbers kick in. It would be an 8-10m hit this coming year and would probably grow each of the last 4 in terms of base/yr. The average would be 20 over that 5 year span and the last year would be mid 20's for sure, but against what cap?

What makes you say it's a fair deal for for both sides? IMO it would be an amazing deal for the Seahawks and a disappointment to Wilson. Just look at the market, that contract would essentially say, you're as good as Dalton or Palmer, and not worth as much as Kap or Cutler. I don't think the Seahawks would have a realistic expectation of Wilson to accept an offer like this.

What were they supposed to do? Come out the gate in April with a realistic offer? Not the way it works... Especially when the player is still under contract.
Evidently they aren't sold on Wilson.

It seems insulting.
