No one thought very highly of the Giants before a big almost win against NE late in the year and no one thought much about Balt at all. The anything can happen saying is used because it's true. But you don't have to win a SB to have a successful year when no one thought you could win 5 or 6 games. Only one team per year wins a SB. More than one team per year has a successful season. If Dallas were in the playoff picture you'd root for them to lose instead of winning the division? I'm hoping your answer is no...

And this is just my point. You bring up two exceptions when that isn't near the norm. The 2007 Giants and the 2012 Ravens are the only two teams in SB history I can think of that were not a legit threat to win the SB going into the playoffs but won it. That's two times in 49 SBs. The anything can happen mantra is very overused and I don't know why people continue to say it. Average teams like the Ravens and Giants very rarely win SBs.

And no I wouldn't root for Dallas to lose instead of winning the division. I'm just saying I never want to see Dallas make the playoffs with a team that is mediocre or worse. 2003 is a very good example. That team had a good year, but we all knew they had zero chance of doing anything in the playoffs because that team had literally no offense. That's the feeling I want to avoid in the playoffs. I mean would you have really wanted to see a 7-9-8-8 Cowboy team with Matt Cassell in the playoffs? This was a year where the NFC East was beyond terrible and no matter who would've won it would have been mediocre at best. Sure, winning the division is nice, but it's not nice to go one and done.

They will play the exact same teams as Dallas with exception of 2 games. They will play Arizona / Carolina compared to us playing TB or NO/ SF

Actually the have the schedules made from here to eternity unless they add/remove a team or realign to uneven divisions.
Now you are correct we don't know where team will land but at this point Arizona and Carolina are clearly 1 and 2 while SF is clearly near the bottom. I don't see these three teams changing much in 16.
