And this is just my point. You bring up two exceptions when that isn't near the norm. The 2007 Giants and the 2012 Ravens are the only two teams in SB history I can think of that were not a legit threat to win the SB going into the playoffs but won it. That's two times in 49 SBs. The anything can happen mantra is very overused and I don't know why people continue to say it. Average teams like the Ravens and Giants very rarely win SBs.No one thought very highly of the Giants before a big almost win against NE late in the year and no one thought much about Balt at all. The anything can happen saying is used because it's true. But you don't have to win a SB to have a successful year when no one thought you could win 5 or 6 games. Only one team per year wins a SB. More than one team per year has a successful season. If Dallas were in the playoff picture you'd root for them to lose instead of winning the division? I'm hoping your answer is no...
