We're behind Utah and Washington State on those rankings?

Utah beat Utah St. and WSU beat a conf team that was still ranked. You've got 0 statement potential until the UW game. And you're not winning that one, so be happy with 8 right now.

What do you PAC fans think of the 2 big games with Nebraska/UCLA and Wisconsin/ASU? I notice the majority are picking UCLA and ASU, as I'd expect, but what are your thoughts on the teams?

I tend to agree on the UCLA/Nebraska game. I think it will be a shootout, though. Both offenses are potent and will move the ball. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw both teams in the 40s or 50s.

Wisky and ASU has the makings of a dogfight, with the amazing ASU defensive line going against the always great Wisconsin offensive line. White and Gordon will have to bring their A+ game, for sure, and the same goes for Marion Grice, who only has played 1 game but looked human on the ground. I could see this one being a 23-17 final, or something like that, with either team winning. Both teams, IMO, will be in their conference race.

Nebraska has the revenge factor and home field advantage vs UCLA. I don't know that it will be enough though. The Bruins are going to have their way with that D. Nebraska is going to have to keep up, and with their running game they are more than capable of that. Martinez scares me. Ive never been a fan and cant wait until he is gone, if they lose it will be because of him! (well and the D but look for Martinez to make a critical error that may cost the game). I agree that this one is going to be a shootout and have picked Nebraska to find a way to win.

I don't see ASU/whisky being close for long (I changed my thoughts on the score I made for my pick in this thread). ASU is in beast mode and they are hungry. Whisky is going to melting in that heat.

mamba,

If not too much trouble could you address my score for the tie breaker game this week? I want to change it to 33-14 ASU. If not don't worry about it. I wont hate you forever, just for a week.

I agree with you a lot on the Nebraska thing. T-Mart is a hell of a playmaker, but he can certainly break your heart. I'd put the O/U on total rushing yards in that game at about 550.

On the Wisky-ASU game, though, What is ASU doing that Wisky isn't? I understand ASU looked great in their game against FCS Sac State, but Wisky has done the same thing but twice now. Neither team has been scored on. While ASU is averaging about 140 more yards in the air, Wisky is getting over 230 more yards on the ground. I don't see any argument for that game being a blowout as you suggest. By the time the game starts that night, the weather is gonna be in the 80s, with a low that night of 79, which isn't anything Wisconsin hasn't already played in twice now, so I don't get that either... :noidea:

It was 108 for our game last week with a 7:00 PM kickoff time and didn't even drop 10 degrees by the end of the game. I wouldn't be surprised at all by a blowout given our history playing B1G/midwest teams at home but I expect a close game for 3 quarters and then for the heat, our tempo, and the late start time to be too much to handle for Wisconsin in the fourth quarter. Something like 24-17 ASU.

Conversely I think UCLA gets out to a slow start with the game starting at 9:00 pacific time. Based on how Nebraska has looked UCLA is the better team and should win but I wouldn't be surprised by either result.

Well the high in Tempe Saturday is supposed to be 100, so it's already nearly 10 degrees down. With a low of 79, I can't see it still being 90 the entire game. Like I said, being near the lake and having the humid as hell Midwestern summer, it won't be anything too different for Wisky. For example, the high today in Madison is 91 with like 45% humidity.

The time thing can be a factor in both games, though. That's a good point about UCLA playing at 9:00 local time. I also think UCLA is the better team, but Nebraska is so damned inconsistent who knows what will happen. When both offenses are clicking there can be fireworks for sure.

I think this game will be the season defining game for UCLA. I haven't watched Nebraska play so I can't comment on who is the better team. I don't even know much about UCLA. UCLA looked much better than they were last year but it could just be the level of competition. They look bigger, stronger, faster and smarter. But they have only played one game and it was against Nevada.

My opinions on this years UCLA team are:

O-line is better
WRs are better
QB is improved
LBs are better

RB has dropped off

Everything else is a question mark for me because of youth.

The D-line could be even better (despite losing Datone Jones to the NFL). Vanderdoes and other freshmen killed it last week. Can they hack it against an AQ school?
The secondary - Bad last year, talented but young this year. Can they make the proper reads against Martinez?
The TE (Y receiver) - Big Joe Fauria was huge in the red zone and 3rd downs. Freshman Thomas Duarte looks like a stud in the making but is really young.

These questions should be answered this week. I'm a very pessimistic fan and usually pick against my team but I have a lot of hope for these freshmen.

Things that worry me not related to talent:
Nick Pasquale passing (terrible to even think about how this will effect football when a man lost his life but I guess I'm a terrible person)
9:00 AM Pacific start time
Revenge factor
Home field for Nebraska

So, I was flipping through the channels last night and when I came across the Pac12wa network feed I noticed they were just showing a retrospective of a game with Oregon in it. I paused to see what they were talking about and it turns out it was a look back at the 2000 civil war complete with commentary from joey and several beaver players. Good stuff it was. Joey went over how he had gone to the RB as a fan with his dad when he was like 12 and told him his name was going to appear right 'there' where the MVP names go for each game. He went into detail about that game and how close they were to a RB bid... but then the ducks had to give up 6 turnovers for the game and left with their duck bills in the dirt. Beaver fans rushed the field afterward and celebrated their first 10 win season in team history (ended up with 11 after spanking ND in fiesta). Best hour of TV I watched this week.

Even though Oregon lost that game, the season holds fond memories.

All the PAC power was in the Pacific Northwest. 3 way tie between Beavs, Oregon, and Washington.

Oregon beat UW, UW beat OSU, OSU beat Oregon.

The Ducks lost in Madison that season.

This game which you watched is where ol Wubz got the nickname Joey 5 picks.

Unfortunately the football Gods didn't smile on Joey for his chance to play a Rose Bowl.

The next season, NATTY was the Rose Bowl and Oregon won the PAC outright. THey received a Fiesta Bowl bid vs Big 12 champ vs #3 Colorado. Oregon was #2 in both AP and Coaches while Nebraska was #4 in both.

Unfortunately the worst screw job in the BCS era came at Joey's Ducks that season as Nebraska received the NATTY bid.

I have always maintained however, it was unfortunate Joey didn't get a NATTY shot in the Rose Bowl, but it may have worked out better for Oregon as they curb stomped Colorado 38-16 in the Fiesta and would have had a VERY difficult time vs THAT 2001 Miami team.

Colorado 38-16 in the Fiesta

I actually rooted for Oregon in that game. One of the few. There was some chump on Colorado, I forget his name just trash talking the pac left right and center. The camera panned to him late in the game and he was bummed and said oh man not the pac boohoohoo.
