I don't know about Oregons O line but given a choice I'd take Stanfords O line over any ones in the country in a heartbeat. I know they have lost some bodies but they have recruited that unit like no one else the past four years and I'm sure last years young backup who will be a starter this year is most likely a future NFL player.

I'd say the number of starts/plays played means more for O lineman than any other position. It's the big stat I look for every year for Alabama - how many combined starts the O-line has.

I saw a study a few years ago with the correlation of O line starts and experience with a teams wins.

It actually weighed heavier than QB.

Experience on the line goes a very long ways for sure.

I wonder how much of that stat is effected by size and age. Players with more starts are going to be older. And (for most) I think its still a lot easier to put size and muscle on a 21 year old body than a 18 year old body. It would be hard to separate the stat but it would be interesting to compare say BYU's line against other O-lines and see how much of a factor age is.

My belief is that age is still a big factor on offensive lines in college.

Yeah, there are other stats about position/games and I only included the Oline because it means much more.

UW has the most games played by their Oline, but that's because of all the injuries they had two years ago when they were forced to start true freshmen on the line at most of the spots over that season. We knew it had the potential to pay off down the road even if it just killed that season. So now we have experience at not only the starters, but most of the backups as well.

Of course UW doesn't know who will take the bulk of the carries in the holes that line creates, nor who is going to be passing the ball this fall, but that's another matter. The line should be decent and not worry about injuries much.

Of course experience is a big factor in O line effectiveness but I've seen at least four straight years of Stanford O line being one of the best in the country and in those four years they have recruited better than almost everyone for replacments . So I'd take a young Stanford O line over an experienced line from most teams other than maybe A Bama or Ohio State or USC (you get the idea) if their lines have a big edge in experience.

While I agree that O-line is a big concern for Stanford in terms of experience and time to gel as a unit. It is also true this entire front will be from that 2012 class of 3-5* O line prospects. All of the newer players (aside from Peat who started all last year) have already played at least some time in the Jumbo and Elephant packages, as well as at their true positions. Garnett started against WSU last year due to Yankey's father passing away.

Every year you watch what Stanford ends up with the o and d line recruits and you groan....painfully. They're always pulling in grade A beef from all over the country. They're a team that does it in the trenches and their recruits are built for it.

Stanford did lose a lot of talent to draft and grad this past year, but I'm not expecting a massive drop off. Maybe not quite as strong as the teams of the past couple years, but still a force to be reckoned with and highly respected.

Glad we get you in game 2. I would not want to see that line after they've had a few games to gel.

You're still going to lose. :noidea:

I think the Trojans take this one. Scs defense looks to be stronger than last year , Stanfords offense doesn't look like (to me anyways) like it will be able to score more than a cpl TDs. I think SCs offense scores more against Stanfords defense. Homer pick I know but hey they beat the trees last year and most people have Stanford lower than last year.

Actually, Stanford looks to be set at the skill positions on O. All of the the key receivers return, the young tight ends are really showing good things, and we have that Dalton Shultz coming in at that position. I expect to see a lot of Barry Sanders against SC.

From previous years USC was short on the D backfield, now, not so much!

Just keep in mind 420, USC is NOT Meatchicken, Texas, OU or ND… When they are on their game, the opponent needs a Vince Young type performance to beat them, along with the Zebras help

UA running back says career is over because of medical issue

Pierre Cormier’s football career is over because of a medical condition, the running back posted tonight on his public Facebook page.

Cormier wrote “Football has always meant the world to me.. Due to a medical condition I’ve been told I can never play again.. This last week and a half has been the hardest ever for me…”

The San Diego native redshirted in 2013 and was expected to compete for extended playing time this season. The 5-foot-10-inch, 183-pound back was rated as a four-star prospect by the Scout.com recruiting service and had 2,233 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior at Madison High School in San Diego.

Cormier spent his first season in Tucson redshirting alongside fellow running back Zach Green. Both had productive and healthy springs and were due to compete for snaps this fall with incoming freshman Nick Wilson, senior Terris Jones-Grigsby, junior Jared Baker and others.

The running back would be the second player in the last few weeks to leave the UA because of a medical reason. Nose tackle Kirifi Taula left the program recently because of a medical issue. He battled a concussion this past spring.

USC will be adding endzone suites at the Coliseum.

USC%209m%20x%2045m%20Layout%20-%204-thumb-800x377-46687.jpg

on-field suites and premium clubs located on the field and outside the Peristyle--will be introduced at the Coliseum in the upcoming 2014 season through a partnership between the USC athletic department and Legends, a global leader in hospitality and client services.

Additional unique fan enhancements, including other dining and tailgating options and exclusive in-game viewing content, are being planned by USC and will be announced prior to the season.

The Peristyle Club, located outside the east end of the Coliseum, will provide members with a one-of-a-kind pre- and post-game tailgating experience, including all-inclusive upscale food and beverage, a cash bar, shaded lounge seating, music and live sports on TVs. The Peristyle Club experience will be an arm's length away as the USC team enters the stadium during the pre-game Trojan Walk. The Peristyle Club will be open three hours prior to kickoff until an hour after the game ends.

Ten private Field Suites, seating 16 patrons on the field just feet from the action, will line the east end zone in front of the Sun Deck. Suite holders, who will access the field via the iconic Coliseum Peristyle stairs, will enjoy an unprecedented VIP experience. Field Suite holders have unlimited entry to the Peristyle Club, as well as to the Field Club.

The exclusive Field Club, adjacent to the Field Suites, will provide 100 members with a high-end, on-field experience, including food and beverage service. The Trojan football team's entrance into the stadium from the Trojan Walk will include passage through the Field Club, whose members also have access to the Peristyle Club.
