I think it's a good call. A game of this importance needs to be held at a "neutral site" then your not worrying about home field advantage for one of the teams.

Home field advantage was the exact reason it was done that way. When they FINALLY got everyone to agree to expansion it was only to add the CCG because a few pac teams got screwed in the rankings and teams that had a CCG but were otherwise maybe even slightly behind them got taken over them. They went to a HFA for the game to further help the odds of getting a quality Pac team into a major bowl.

Having it on a neutral site won't change the odds that much. A stronger team is stronger there as well. It does stand to create imbalance in specific cases such as say Stanford vs Colorado (could happen 20 years from now). Much easier travel for Stanford than far away teams so likely it would end up being more of a home game for them in terms of crowd noise. But then since when do Stanford fans make enough noise to impact a game anyway?

NEUTRAL SITE FOR PAC CG?

I personally liked having the game @ the teams home venue that "earned the right" to host that game by being the best team in the Pac during the regular season. With that right now gone who really knows what will happen with revenue generated and how likely students from competing schools will participate by being able to attend this CCG. Early December means classes are still going on so a neutral site seems likely to exclude active students from participating. This move of venue just shows how much money and corp support drives what use to be a "student athlete" environment and game. I understand that green cash now drives underfunded universities, but I still want that "old feeling" of the game to exist. Guess this old clown just needs to forget about the past and wilt under the new system. Same goes for the 8 +1 schedule system the rest of the country caves into. Fall in line or else kiss the the booty goodbye.

I will always have my schools 28 straight losing seasons to fall back on and the memories of lore that told me at least back then, we did it all "our way".

Well said, MrWallace, but don't give up yet. This is after all a 3 year "trial". What the PAC is hoping for is a neutral site game as successful as the SEC CCG in Atlanta, but then they put it in the one area that is most unlike the rabid football haven of Georgia. What is the closest PAC school to Santa Clara and how is their home attendance? Atlanta fits only in the narrowest definition of a neutral site. I am hoping, and predicting, in the words of the Wiz, a flop. Join me.:suds:

I'm glad the PAC isn't committing long term to this just yet. The logic is sound for both options. We've gotten a taste of playing it in the home stadium of the team with the best record and now we will see how the neutral site works. Then the PAC can decide which one works best for the PAC.

If it does end up going back to the home field of the team with the best record, I will look forward to hosting some of you at the annual PAC-12 CCG tailgate party at the Coliseum!!

Bout time they have a neutral site game, having it on a campus made them look like conference USA

Especially when only 30K showed up to watch Stanford play UCLA a couple of years ago. That was pretty pathetic.....

I like this. All college football conference championship games should be at a neutral site. :thumb:

yes are you? 49er fans wil travel in the bay area to see the 49ers... they arent going to drive to see 2 pac12 teams they dont give a shit about. and trying to pass off santa clara as san francisco to those flying in to see their college teams is laughable.

Let's not pretend People in the area are known to be particularly rabid sports fans. Filling the stadium will not be a given. The whole thing is a shame. PAC had it right the first time and letting other bad examples influence them

I would argue that the all conference champ games should be done like the PAC did it. Made much more sense

I lived there for 10 years, just left a year ago. Does that qualify? Talking about a 20-40 minute drive max, with public transportation available if that is your thing.

I disagree. Filling the stadium may not necessarily be a given, but I think that it won't be nearly as difficult as you are thinking. The longest travel time is a very nice 6-8 hour drive along the coast or a 1-2 hour flight. From most places in PAC 12 territory, you can attend the game and return home the same day if you want.

Either way, it's only a 3 year deal right now. So if it doesn't work, the PAC can change back in 3 years.

Even if they renovated the coliseum, a NFL stadium will all facilities and suites will be a better choice. If LA ever gets a NFL team, it's a possibility that it's new stadium would be a choice.

I'm good with this move to Levi's. The PAC teams that travel well won't have a problem having a good fan presence at the games.

SEC and Big10 do it at NFL facilities. PAC should for now as well.

I know they were going with something different on purpose. The stadium will be a world class facility, but I'm not a fan of that 5 stories of luxury suites they built on one side of the stadium. It makes it look like a stadium that was built in phases over decades. Very disjointed facade.

But it does have some interesting touches like the pedestrian bridges to get from the main parking areas to the suite side of the stadium.

And the large entrances that you walk up to get to the deck overlooking the field. Reminds me of the north side entrance of Seahawks Stadium. It's always a great feeling when you hit the tops of those steps and get your first look at the field. You know it's game day and you can feel the adrenaline start flowing.

from the airport maybe, but not from anywhere you'd want to stay to get a real taste of san fran. it's akin to saying baton rouge is the same as new orleans....
