Im not going to lie Utah is tough and physical. They just dont know how to win the close game. Anyone who goes up to Salt Lake has a chance to lose. They are bullies and will punch you in the mouth when you least expect it you have to make plays. Unfortunately there offense cant get that 1st down or move the ball when they need to. I expect Utah to have a big year in the Pac next year.

But yea anyone can go to Salt Lake and lose the teams that do win are really ugly wins such as Ucla or even us last week. You just want to hop on the bus and get the hell out of there.

Utah is the new ASU. Their defense is good enough that they can make it a game with any team in the country and when healthy their offense looks unstoppable inside the 20s but they can't score in the redzone and penalties and stupid mistakes keep them out of winning games they should.

I just dont think Mannion can deal with ASUs pass rush.

You ASU boyz aint bringing anything more than Mannion hasn't seen before. But with 2 weeks off and a healthy crew of Beavs coming to your venue soon. we'll soon find out IF he has his head screwed on right, not to mention our coaches heads too.

Tis the season for anything to happen! Riley will coach up his team, he knows they cant just show up and they'll get the "W" gonna be a physical game, question becomes if Beavs defense can hang...

I believe THIS Q has been answered already. Review the Stanford D effort...OUTFUCKINGSTANDING. Review the D effort against 1st half USC BEFORE Mannion's 3 INT's began to take it's toll on our D...OUTFUCKINGSTANDING.

but what the hell do I know...:noidea:

BTW...In my OP on who will win in the desert @ ASU...

Whoever wins the Turnover game...THAT seems to be the Beavers achilles heel this season. For the most part, they beat themselves.

I don't think so.

Did you know that Saban makes all his players go to class and actually has people who check and make sure all the students are in all their classes. I mean people who go and physically make sure the players are in class. Players who miss a class get in trouble directly with Saban.

I know you are talking about higher requirements to recruit rather than this and a limited recruiting pool as a result, but it's not that much more limited. And once on campus, I highly doubt it's that much more difficult. People like to make fun of the Alabama/SEC as being somehow less than great academically, but this is one area Saban is really great about.

One of the biggest things that I like about Stanford is their style of football + them being the "smart kids". So I'm certainly not going to say Alabama > Stanford in that area. But I don't think the gap is big enough to say it's somehow a case for Shaw being a better coach than Saban with his 4 NC's. Shaw seems to be good and all(I need a few more years to be 100% sure), but let's not get crazy.

Do you think Shaw could come to Alabama and do what Saban has done? I don't think so.

Do you think Saban could go to Stanford and do what Shaw has done? I think so, and more.

All valid points to an extent. The issue is not just the admissions, it is finding kids willing to put in the work to get admitted. For instance, T'eo was offered a scholarship at Stanford, but he was told he would have to take the SAT/ACT again, and at least one more AP class to have any chance of getting admitted. He opted not to. Rumor has it that is the same situation Stanford was in with Peppers this year. Michigan won out because he did not have to do the extra work to get in.

As far as Saban checking on kids going to class, that used to be a rule for the NCAA IIRC, if nothing else it should be expected. To be honest, I have rarely seen course spotters on the U of A campus over my 15 years here, but it has increased in frequency under RichRod and Miller.

Could Shaw do what Saban has done at Alabama, maybe, though I am not sold on it, his schtick works best with Stanford players since he was one, and can empathize with their academic requirements. Just take peak at some of the twitter feeds for Stanford players. Skov spent most of Sunday writing computer code, our right guard is actually studying to be a rocket scientist, the back up FB was doing prepping for a integral calculus exam last night etc. Not that does not occur on all teams, but the number of players in engineering and math related fields on the team is a bit above the norm.

Could Saban do what Shaw has done at Stanford? With Shaw's players yes. Remember, one of the reasons Harbaugh brought Shaw along from SD was to help with recruiting, and Shaw has done a better job of that so far than Harbaugh did. Though the success under Harbaugh has helped, I am not that much of a homer to not admit that. What makes Shaw unique is his ability to sell the school. He truly loves the place. I remember how excited he was to be there freshman year. He spent the first couple weeks in our dorm geeking out on all the Stanford lore and faculty.

Shaw is truly a Stanford homer, and that is what makes him unique as a coach there.

So it basically comes down to Mannion taking care of the ball, no mistakes, geez feels like I'm talking about my Dawgs and Price! :suds:

Wallace I think think they get it down there and walk away with the win...

Beavers will have to do a lot of things right to get the hell outta ASU with a win. Protecting the Rwak would be #1 of course. I would be crawling ALL OVER that game film from last week and , of course, the Stanford film too. Obviously "running the ball" played a big part in both of ASU losses, you gotta keep Kelly et all OFF THE FIELD as best you can, so moving the chains would the #2 objective. Can the Beavers "run" on ASU? Why the hell not, so head to the edges or use draw plays there and don't forget about OSU's fly sweep plays either. Beavers pass game is one of the best and for it to be successful, they have to block and give Mannion time. QB don't need much time, except to streach the field out. Success running/screen passes will allow "play action" so I see this as objective #3. Beavers D is small and as with any team...CONTAINMENT...is crucial in defending ASU's high potent O game and making them punt. Devils will move the ball and score, let's keep this at a minimum...objective #4.

Should be a beaut...:suds:
