Here in the winter, they reduce the rates way low. So my bill was less than $100.

Then right before the heat comes, they jack the rates up. My bill went up to $180 immediately before the heat even got here, then $190(last month).

Right now it's been up over 100 for a week or 2, and my bill is projected to be $255. I figure a month of the high heat and it's going to be $280-$300.

Still cheaper than San Jose was even without A/C.

Yeah, my August bill will hit $300 or better. It's been higher in the past, but I set the thermostat at 78-79 usually which helps. One summer, when I was keeping the temp closer to 74-75, it almost hit $400 in August.

Yeah in San Jose there is like a 1-2 week period every year, usually around August where it gets in the mid to high 90's because the ocean wind quits blowing. Those weeks suck because no A/C.

And the wind can be pretty cold even at night in the summer. But not as bad as San Fran, the mountains take the edge off.

113 today in Hellzona. But I think hot and humid in the south is probably worse. With the exception of getting in a car.
No probably about it. The humidity matches the temperature in the Gulf states and produces the most uncomfortable climate in the country for the entire summer. Give me AZ, a high temp and low humidity anytime, if we have to have a summer.

We'll see, it's still early in the summer yet. But so far I agree.

I keep mine 74. I tried going a little higher, but I'd rather pay the extra $30. And on days like today, it doesn't really matter what it's set on because it's going non stop no matter what. It might as well be an on/off switch.

Gets like that in August. I usually can't shut off the A/C until about 10:00pm then. If I have a bunch of work to do inside the house, I'll lower it to 74-75 (otherwise it's too hot). But 78-79 seems to work the rest of the time.

If the difference in my bill was only $30. I'd keep it at 74. My energy bills in the winter are awesome (or as awesome as a bill can be) because I don't turn on the heater. Can't remember the last time I did.

Yeah, I gave it a try and I saved only $1 a day. After a few days I said screw it and went back.

They have the meters that report usage daily, so you can try stuff like that and see what kind of results they give you pretty quick. They put an "average temperature" on the chart, and the usage/costs basically mirror it. The average temperature yesterday was 100.

It seems that electricity in the South is cheaper than here. When I lived in Florida, the electric bill was never too bad and that was with the A/C going pretty much 24/7.

My understanding is that the grid has trouble handling the demand, which explains the high cost and occasional rolling blackouts.

It was WAYYYYY cheaper in the south. I was paying 33 cents per watt or more in San Jose. In Tennessee, it was like 8 cents per watt.

I believe it. Prices here are pretty ridiculous.

:L

Most of the country isn't like LA, they have a thing called "seasons", and the weather still gets really cold in the south.

I froze my ass off many saturday afternoons and friday nights.

Thats the point. When USC goes to play Colorado and its 23 degrees at kickoff (2013) and when Colorado plays Arizona state and it's 88 degrees at kickoff at 7 at night (2013). But its never 23 in LA and Colorado doesnt have the Arizona heat or the weather they will play in Corvalis. In the PAC you sometimes don't have the weather your team will play in that saturday. When it starts to get cold in Alabama it's pretty much the same at the rest of your teams in your conference . The same when the weather gets hot. I know it's not a huge thing but you have to admit that a team from Washington going to play an afternoon game in Arizona or a USC or Cal going to play where it's going to be 22 degrees makes the game tougher on the visiting team. I don't see much of that (the weather difference) in most of the rest of big boy college football.

Oregon and Washington go from Hot and sunny the first few games to cold and wet for a while to potential for snow. throw in some low fog where it makes it hard to see the game and welcome to the PNW

USC does terrible in those games. The home teams knows it which makes it even tougher.

4-star OLB Darrian Franklin (Downey,CA) has committed to Oregon. Nice get for the Ducks as he was considered a heavy lean to USC.

His offers included USC, Arizona, ASU, Cal, UCLA, Miami, Michigan, and Oklahoma.

USC has the #1 and #2 rated LBs in the country according to rivals but I hear one is a soft commitment so I'm sure they would have liked to get this kid if he was offered. Dam Ducks.
