Saw that deal for Sissons, money's not bad but term is a bit long.

Don't the Leafs still need to be cap compliant before season starts?

They can be 10% over before LTIR. I guess they have to give us Nylander for Harrington. Such a curious move.

And it doesn't do enough for Vegas. Now they have 1m in space, Gusev still outstanding and only 6 D total signed, 3 of which are UFA at season's end. And one of those is Engelland.

Hoping the Jackets take a run at Gusev and Eakin. We have 3 or 4 cheap solid D men to offer.

They just wait have to wait to sign marner the day the season starts

hasn't he already said that he won't be at camp without a contract?
makes for a pretty slim window.

and zero leeway incase there are injuries during the year.
oh well, good luck i guess
water bottles could be safer

My guess here is they don't see Marner signing before the season starts.

In which case, to be perfectly honest, I was a lot happier with Dubas holding the line at the previous dollar amount and say take it or sit the year. Opening a window where they're now like "oh, well, if it bleeds into October it's okay because we have this amount of space to fall back on" is very puzzling to me.

Y'all have this Clarkson thing all wrong and are overthinking it.

This is simply a slightly more complex version of the "Retire as a Leaf 1 Day Contract". Allows DC to retire a Leaf. Rumo(u)r has it John Scott will show up for the inevitable highlight real and festivities.

And it makes *more* sense for the Leafs than it does for Vegas. Let that sink in.

Was the Vegas problem that the offseason cap hit was preventing them from signing Engelland? Because, lol.

Supposedly the cap/Clarkson issue was preventing them from signing Gusev. So they did this and didn't clear enough space to do so, and have no option to do so beyond another trade. Which will probably be for Gusev himself. But in order to do that, they can't add more than 1mil in salary.

I was pretty surprised they didn't trade one of Stastny or Marchessault at some point.

I know all the media buzz was on them trading Patches but nobody was going to be dumb enough to take that contract on. Other two had value at least.

Supposedly the Jackets targeted Stastny, Gusev and Calrkson's contract and were allegedly considering 2 NHL D to do it (Probably Murray and Kukan) plus pieces. But they probably would have accepted Eakin in place of Stastny.

Now they have no motivation to offer anything above Harrington for Gusev.

Yeah, Gusev is still an interesting piece for Vegas. I still think they trade him before the start of the season.
