Trading Cam Smith might be something the Cubbies might regret. I watched him with Florida State in the CWS. He can hit and won't be in the minors for long.
That’s a nice package.

The best compliment

AL so lucky NY continues to employ Cashman......rest of teams would be screwed if they had someone in charge who was not clueless.

He’s made some mistakes (like djL)

But I think he’s fine

How no one else beat this is surprising

Maybe he’s smarter than most gms
Looks like they got him for free. A pure salary dump for the Cubs. Pure and simple.

And I suspect this is the first ever Cody 4 Cody trade in MLB history.

Well a lot of teams can't afford him.
A handful teams probably don't think he is worth that salary.

I'm not a huge fan but I think it's a good fit with that short porch. Cubs wanted to shed salary apparently

This values him as a 2 win player

Not unreasonable

Most teams could afford him

His contract is basically neutral surplus value though

Depends on what version they get. Two years ago or last year. Last year he wasn’t good. I’m not sure why Chicago added $5M too. Even if you want to shed salary and start younger guys they gave him away and shed $5M off this year. Crazy

Leeway he has (money) that team should have had far more success than they have had the last decade or even longer. He can also outspend his mistakes if he wants...well, try, at least.

Playoffs are a crapshoot at best

One bad week ruins a great 6 months

No disagreement, but with the money he can spend has the advantage it's far easier for him to get IN the playoffs each season. Also helps to have elite or at least stud SPs for that crapshoot and often he does not have them which is his fault.

Playoffs are a different game from the regular season. Similar to limit poker vs no limit poker. Same mechanics, but a TOTALLY different game. Or cross country. That final leg of the race is a different sport than it is off the gun.

This is great. Fuck the Cheatros. Not saying Arenado is anything close to what he once was but always nice to see a “fuck you” to Houston
