Let me start by saying I am glad Richards is gone and have no interest in bringing him back. Having said that, I do think it's clear that the Flyers have a lot of talent at forward, but not necessarily the right mix. If Chief cannot find the right combination of forwards with what he has, I'd be ok with a trade at some point. Not yet though, unless by some stroke of divine intervention Hexy can move Vinny or Umberger in which case the timing will always be good. Then again, considering his first trade looks worse by the day...

I agree with you there. There seems to be a lot of square pegs for round holes, ie Simmonds being a perfect match for the top line style wise, but he's a RW instead of a LW.

I do think Berube needs to look at breaking up his precious pairs though. G and Voracek staying together is fine, but if you take Schenn off the Couturier/Read line I think you need to look at breaking up Couturier and Read. As a duo they're just not making an impact this season. I like both players, and have no desire to move either of them, but I think it might be time to try them with some new line mates.

I agree - Chief needs to be willing to move guys like Couts and Reader around - I think Reader possibly needs to get up to the top line so he can be encouraged to be more offensive - he needs a jolt big time

I would like to see Schenn up there for a little bit first. I think you need a little more 'edge' from the LW on the top line than Read would provide. I think Schenn.G.Voracek could be a long term solution on the first line if they're given a little bit of time. And with Schenn looking good right now, and having played well with the gingers on Saturday, I'd like to see a little more of that.

I'd kind of like to see a PEB.Lecavalier.Read line for a bit. I think it would allow Vinny to be more of a floater, which is all he does right now, the other two can carry the puck and dig it out for him.

Which I guess leaves Akeson?.Couturier.Simmonds. Which isn't all bad. It kills the concept of a shutdown line though because Akeson and Simmonds aren't very good defensively. And to be honest, Akeson was horrible on Saturday. Raffl could be a nice compliment to that line when he comes back though. More of a grind-it-out type line.

Maybe when Michael Raffl returns, you could have these lines:

Brayden Schenn - Claude Giroux - Jake Voracek
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare - Vinny Lecavalier - Matt Read
Michael Raffl - Sean Couturier - Wayne Simmonds

It would give Couts an offensive weapon in Simmer and a fast guy in Michael Raffl - I think when Jason Akeson plays on the 3rd line it kills Couts and Reader because Jason Akeson isn't up to snuff with them

Is there anybody in the minors that can come up and take Akesons spot?

I wonder how long it takes before Laughton comes up. He seems to be ready to contribute. I wonder how patient Hextall is with him.

I do kind of like leaving him in the minors for a bit, rather than bringing him up for 4th line duty. Give him some time playing in an offensive role, see if he can develop that a little more.

The fear is that Laughton will be slotted into a position that he isn't a fit for. Akeson is a good example. He is not a 4th line guy but plays a lot on the 4th line. When he doesn't play well as a 4th line guy he goes to the dog house. The problems are Vinny and Umberger taken 2 top 9 spots and not playing like top 9 guys. Do you play Umber on the 4th line at this point? We have 3 guys killing us right now with their contracts.

Umberger should be on the 4th line. That's where his talent level places him, and honestly he wouldn't suck at that type of role. He'd just be way overpaid for it.

Akeson looked awful in the Habs game. And he played that game with Vinny and Umberger. Obviously playing with those two anchors isn't helping anyone, but individually, Akeson was bad too. Lots of turnovers, very little d zone coverage. I wish Akeson could earn a spot, because we could use a player of his style, but I just don't think he's that player.

Akeson 12 games 0 points and 6 penalty minutes all I believe in the offensive zone. Cousins up and Ak down. Umberger to the 4th line or even if Vinny goes to the 4th line he played very well in that role last season.

Right now I don't see how Umberger and Vinny can play together. Anyone playing with those 2 will look bad. Some of these guys are creating too many problems with lines. we have some great 2 somes:

G- Jake
Schenn - Simmonds
Couts - Read.

That leaves a LW for line 1
LW or C for 2
LW for 3.

Candidates.

Frenchie (maybe 2nd line C)
Akeson
Vinny
Umberger
Raffl (when healthy)

Rinaldo and VV are 4th line.

I have writers block on the remainder.

I like Frenchie as the second line center with Schenn and Simmer I just wish Couts had advanced enough offensively to be that guy. I like Raffl on line 1 as he was playing his best hockey on that line this season.

Lol, 8 hours apparently. Laughton called up to play tomorrow. Jones sent down.

Worried about G.

Sucks about Gee but he mostly is mostly invisible when we play the Rags for some reason. Maybe Laughton can do some good things out there and stay with the big club.
