JVR a solid -32 this season and 0 for 2 at making the playoffs since his trade to the Leafs. He doesn't bring anything else to a team other than put up points and only had 55 this season. Yes we could've traded him for a better player than Schenn is turning out to be but he would not have made any difference to this team being a Stanley cup contender.I find it difficult to believe that our penalty kill would've been significantly worse this season without Umberger. Opposing teams scored on us 23.1% of the time on their power plays (with Umberger for 67 games). Only two opposing Nhl teams scored at a higher percentage. So, we were absolutely terrible...with him.
Maybe this is crazy talk, but you'd think our penalty killing would be better than 29th when they are facing one of the best power plays in the Nhl during practice.
Either way, this just goes back to our apparent trend of shipping away scoring left wingers when one of the most gaping holes in our roster is exactly that (Yes, I'm still bitter about trading JvR for L. Schenn.)

He's actually 1 for 3(made the playoffs in the shortened season)[/QUOT

Even worse that since he has joined the team he has brought them to a rapid decline.
WTF? It's JVR's fault that the Leafs have gotten worse? Do you see their defense? Do you see their lack of depth past their top 3-4 players? That has nothing to do with JVR - he has gotten way better since joining the Leafs
He's gotten better? What makes you say that the -33 points or all his all star appearances or being tied for 60th in the league in points. He was a number 2 pick if that is what you get from that slot that is a bust.WTF? It's JVR's fault that the Leafs have gotten worse? Do you see their defense? Just read an article that made me smile. The Pens traded their 1st for David Perron. Perrons line is 40 gp -12-10-22 -8. They did not lottery protect the pick. Imagine if the Pens don't make the Playoffs and they win the McDavid lottery. Edmonton will say thanks for McDavid.
I'm just giddy watching this Penguins season unfold. Miss the playoffs or early round collapse? I wish they could have both
I got a sick feeling that if the Pens miss the playoffs, they magically end up with the #1 pick...ugh
fortunately Edmonton owns their #1 pick and it's not lottery protected
another oddity, though highly unlikely, if the Isles were to lose out, the Bruins, Sens, Pens win out. They would miss the playoffs and the Sabres have their pick, also not lottery protected. So it is technically possible that the Sabres could get McDavid and Eichel. If the Isles were to miss the playoffs and then win the lottery, the Sabres would draft 1st and 2nd.
Love the fact Meltzer just blasted Milbury. He talks so much and never gets called out I guess this article will remind him how bad of a GM he was.HockeyBuzz.com - Bill Meltzer - Meltzer's Musings: Take Milbury's Mason Critique with a Fistful of Salt

I would be nice to see the Pens home watching the playoffs courtesy of the Flyers season sweep. This could get interesting. The Penguins could easily go 1-1 in last 2. If the Sens beat the Rangers, then they are in if they beat us.
And even better if the win the lottery and Edmonton picks McDavid.I would be nice to see the Pens home watching the playoffs courtesy of the Flyers season sweep.
