i didnt realize george stromboloploploplopolous interviewed Bettman and threw up a softball question (perhaps written by the league office) starting with (paraphrasing) "Now there are rumours that someone in the NHL front office approached John Scott to get him to not attend the ASG"

Honestly (and maybe it's because I love Phil) this is part of the reason I'm not 100% enamored with the Scott stuff. Am I thrilled/entertained at how he bitch slapped the league, essentially? Yes. Does he seem like a stand up dude off the ice? Sure. Glad his family got this. But he's got a pretty long history of being a predator on the ice. If this was a guy like George Laraque, an enforcer who played within the rules and didn't cheap shot (that I can remember, feel free to make me eat crow), then I'd love with no strings attached.

I...don't think that's something Phil would, ever, ever do? That interchange annoys me because people called out Kessel for running/slashing. Yes, the slashing was dumb, got suspended and all, but that crossed the line. A 6'8'' brute can't attack a star player. That was just dumb. Of course I'm biased and hate the idea that you can force a guy into a fight. You're not obligated to accept any challenge. Just a pet peeve.

The 6-foot-8 Scott knew he had to respond and said he would’ve went after anyone who lined up beside him, so he told Kessel, who’s about eight inches shorter and 13 pounds heavier, “Phil, we’re going to have to go here, just to let you know.”

How did Kessel respond?

“I think he said, ‘All right, let’s do it,’” Scott said.

Okay - after reading that, I don't believe Scott for a second. Also, I've adjust the weight differential accordingly.
