Technically we are historically a program who has just gotten by the little guys, and in fact every now and then would drop one to the little guys.......like Iowa State back in the day.

When I watch those Husker videos about the history of Nebraska Football if I didn't know any better I'd think we are some kind of a powerhouse program or something......that's how we all try to make it sound.

I'm not even trying to be a dick about this either.......I know I have been jokingly being a prick here as of late, but on this subject I really do believe that the History of Nebraska Football is probably the most overhyped out of any program in the country.

You have got to be fucking kidding me JJM

Go look back at the past, HP.....

We sucked against OU and we sucked in bowl games.........

Those were the only quality opponents we were actually playing every year. It's a fact.

I think it's a legit argument....

We played in the Big 2 for years. Every season came down to who wins between NU and OU........and most of the time we got our asses pounded and then went and got our asses pounded in the bowl game.

We were good just for 2 short periods of time, and in one of those periods of time OU sucked balls.

The only "mediocre" season's Nebraska has had since 1961 (52 years) is...

1967 (6-4)
1968 (6-4)
2002 - (7-7)
2005 - (8-4) That that would even be considered as "mediocre" is arguable.

The only losing season's Nebraska has had since 1961 are...

2004- (5-6)
2007 - (5-7)

The other 46 years Nebraska has been any of the following...

1st Tier ( approx. #1 - #5)
2nd Tier (approx. #6 - #12)
3rd Tier (approx. #13 - #22)
4th Tier (#23 - NR But Also Receiving votes)

I'm using W/L's as it pertains to poll rankings to establish what I view as "Tiers".

Total fail post. :L

You're too young to even comprehend CFB prior to 1999. You were about 4 y/o when TO won his first national title in 1994.

Tom Osborne took over in 1973 and up until 1990 OU completely owned Nebraska.

Nebraska won 6 out of 19 matchups during that period of time, and also went 8-10 in bowl games.

It was quite evident that the only quality opponents that Nebraska faced, Nebraska could not compete at that level.

It took Osborne about 20 years to turn the corner. It is a fact. I could be 5 years old and know enough by looking at the history of Nebraska Football that it was no fluke that every time we played OU we got our balls kicked in.

Dude. Nebraska can not control who is in there confrence nor how much of a powerhouse they are. Regardless winnig 9-10-11 games a year is hard nomatter what confrence you are in or what era you are in. Also are you taking into account that OU was already a prime time program when Switzer got there Berry was also able to go in and recruit black athletes out of the south.

Tom had to go down an convince players like Gill to come up to Nebraska which in comparison to Texas and Oklahoma, Nebraska might as well be on the moon. I dont think you are giving enough credit where credit is due. If Tom had the players that Texas and OU have in thee back pocket Tom might have won 10 national championships and that is no exageration.

Hey, I'm giving Nebraska plenty of credit.....

I just get sick and tired of people thinking that we should be winning titles year in and year out in this day and age simply because after 20 years Osborne started winning Conference titles every year.

We actually did struggle for quite some time.......you can go back and look at it. In Osborne's first 7 or so seasons he actually lost to a handful of unranked teams.

What Bowl games are you looking at? I know TOm didnt have the best Bowl record but look at the bowl games he was in and where both teams ended up at the end of the season. You cant cherry pick either you have to look at Toms win/ loss as a whole

hint: 255-49-3 and he never finised outside the top 25

In 1964, Osborne joined the Cornhusker coaching staff as an unpaid offensive assistant to head coach Devaney; his only compensation was being able to dine at the athletic training table. After two disappointing 6–4 seasons in 1967 and 1968, Devaney named Osborne as offensive coordinator for the 1969 season. Osborne immediately overhauled the offense, switching to a balanced attack operated from the I formation. The revamped offense sparked the Huskers to the national title in 1970. The Huskers defeated LSU 17-12 in the 1971 Orange Bowl and finished first in the post-bowl AP poll, but third in the final UPI coaches' poll. (Through the 1973 season, the final UPI coaches poll was released before the bowls, making it a "regular season" title.) UPI awarded its title to Texas, which lost to Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl (#2 Ohio State also lost, to Stanford in the Rose Bowl). Nebraska was 13-0 in 1971 and a consensus national champion, defeating the next three teams in the final AP poll: Oklahoma, Colorado, and Alabama.

So before Tom got to the OC position at Nebraska Nebraska was not winning national chamionships and Tom is a major reason why we won in 70 and 71

The Osborne/Pelini debate has been hashed and rehashed multiple times.

Only an ignorant fool would attempt to put them on equal footing.

I would agree on both counts Tom was a big part of those championships and also OU was far more historically significant than Nebraska, on that same note the OC had better be a big part of your gameplan and nothing has changed as far as OU being more historically impacting.

lol

I aint comparing Tom to Bo.......I was just stating why we really were just a boring program for many years.

Besides, it's impossible to know how Bo would have done in a conference where you only play one team. That whole debate definitely is pointless.
