You gotta be kidding me...

The Chapecoense soccer club, already reeling from the horrific plane crash that claimed most of the members of its team, has been dealt another insulting blow.

According to the Mirror UK, the Brazilian team has been fined roughly $40,000 (Can.) along with opponent Atletico Mineiro for missing the final game of the season.

Chapecoense had 19 players perish in a plane crash that killed 71 people on Nov. 28. The plane was carrying players, staff and journalists when it went down near Medellin, Colombia. The team was en route to play the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional.

The plane crash has also devastated the team’s home city of Chapeco, Brazil. The entire community has been in mourning since the tragedy occurred.

Saw this earlier but I also read that it was a hoax.

On paper Atleti should get by them but they seemed very capable of playing for the result in the group stage.
Also on this note, Vilarreal just smashed Atleti 3-0.

Vila are having a pretty good season themselves but Atleti have now only won once in their last five Liga fixtures.

They also made this weird redesign of their badge:

Seattle's mayor just said the Sounders are the best sawker team in the world. Seems legit.

Did Giovinco actually say the TFC turf on Saturday gave him cramps? I mean, I'm no trainer or health care professional (my wife is though) so I'm going to run this by her and get her opinion.
I have no idea if that's possible, but he's catching a lot of stick for his comments. To be fair, Altidore made a similar comment.

The fact of the matter is football is usually played on turf for a reason.

Well, to be fair to both players, that turf was likely a semi-frozen chewed up mess for both teams and it's too bad because it certainly impacted the quality of play. Maybe one day MLS will play their championship game in early November and likely avoid this kind of scenario again.

Kicking that ball must have felt like kicking a goddamn boulder.

Man, CFL'ers are quite the touchy bunch huh:

Didn't see them saying shit when literally every MLS fan in the city were up in arms about them moving to BMO.

That's just Ricky being Ricky, he's pretty useless as a CFLer these days, so he has to run his mouth (or his twitter account) in order to feel relevant.

I just read he was a CFL'er and made the biggest stink about this (saw at least 3 tweets on the subject). Wasn't aware he was bad even by CFL standards.

To be fair, he used to be pretty good (although I still contend he talked a bigger game than he delivered on the field), but the last three years have been pretty mediocre for ole Ricky.

Ronaldo scored his 500th goal for Real Madrid last night in the Club World Cup vs. Club America. He's been at the club for 7 years; that's an average of 71 goals a year.

For comparison, only 8 clubs (including his Real Madrid) scored 71 or more goals last season.
