My sister in law was addicted. During the week she died, she ordered shit that my brother has zero idea what it is or what it's for.

He's up in Maine as I type, scattering her ashes on Higgins Beach and Two Lights rocks. Hope he doesn't get caught at the beach. Freaky people up there have a problem walking on the "remains" of dead people. I told him to dump her in the water and wash up on the beach.

My wife and I want to do that on the outer cape when we go … but the garden’s good for me, right next to the compost bin … the ashes, not the body … they say that’s not good for the vegetables … bodies and dog shit can’t be near the compost pile
… although she’ll be buying her groceries online too by then

I really got a slap on the back of the noggin this morning. Watching an episode of Boston Sports Tonight with Felger and Holley that was recorded last night. Suddenly, my brain starts putting together the annual Sports Calendar.

I begin to think about what is active during the year. (Excluding Soccer, Horse Racing, NASCAR and College Sports)

January - NFL, NBA, NHL
February - NFL(Super Bowl), NBA, NHL, MLB (Pitchers and Catchers report)
March - NBA, NHL, MLB (Spring Training), NFL (Free Agency)
April - NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL (Draft)
May - NBA(Draft), NHL, MLB
June - NBA (Championship), NHL (Championship, MLB, NFL (OTAs)
July - MLB(Trade Deadline), NFL (Training Camp)
August - MLB, NFL (Preseason)
September MLB, NFL, NBA (Training Camp), NHL (Training Camp)
October - MLB (World Series), NFL(Trade Deadline), NBA, NHL
November - NFL, NBA, NHL
December - NFL, NBA, NHL

It occurred to me that May, June and July are pretty much dead months for the NFL other than OTAs.

Anything or anyone that creates an NFL headline gets a tremendous amount of media attention during those three months. It's lso a time when the media literally creates news or shall I say, issues.

Last night was a perfect example..............Carlton Davis not attending OTAs.
Everything that's happened since Mike Vrabel was hired as the Head Coach has been beaten to dust. Stephon Diggs hanging out on a boat with three women became no news. Suddenly the Dolphins are looking for anyone to take on Jalen Ramsey and his mega-contract and the Boston media has honed in on the fact that CB Carlton Davis has not attended any voluntary workouts. What's he doing? He was jet-skiing in the Caribbean. Jones & Keefe on Instagram: "Was #Patriots CB Carlton Davis driving luxury sports cars on the beach!?"

The first question out of the reporter's mouth was: Is Jet-Skiing allowed in his contract?

Soooooooooooooooo.....Let's get started on a new "Somethin' to bitch about!!"

And 30 years ago NASCAR ruled Sunday afternoons.

Nothing for me to bitch about. Besides, NFL, MLB, NBA and the NHL, I also watch the English Premier League (EPL) and Australian Football League (AFL). Plenty of sports to watch. If none of those are playing on a certain day I don't mind watching golf, pool or snooker albeit in moderation. Some of those players have incredible billiards skills.

If I had a bitch, I wish the NFL season was longer. I understand their argument but it seems so short compared to other sports.

Where? I think it's still relatively new "major sport" concept above the Mason-Dixon line. The emphasis is on "I think".
Shit, all my friends were hooked on NASCAR from like 82 on. Their dads, older brothers and sisters, moms.
My dad, not my mom but uncles on her side.

Every Saturday night was Thunder Road, the best short track in America. Pay to get in and sit up on Budweiser Hill.

I watch Nascar. Not really suprising, since I'm a retired racer. I like any type of racing - at least moderately.
I dislike soccer, golf and any women's sports, pool and bowling.
Baseball used to be great.
I like hockey but I'm a far-weather fan - same with NBA......

Saturday nights were 'car' racing nights in Maine from the time I can remember. There has always been, since the 1930s, and still is, a one-mile dirt track called Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. My dad called it Saturday Night Wrecks. He took me to watch so I'd know how bad a car wreck could be.

Down the Road was Scarborough Downs. A one-mile dirt thoroughbred horse racing track. Open from mid-May until Labor Day every year. It had to swap to sulkies in the late sixties because the cheap claimers were getting too expensive. It finally closed for good in the early 90S. A developer bought ut and the surrounding land that was part of it and has built hundreds of Condos, built a shopping center that now has a Costco and just can't stop growing. My sister-in-law bought a condo there for $300,000 and sold it last year for $450,000. Just saw two for sale for $650,000, exactly like my SIL's. There is nothing for sale in the greater Portland area. You want to sell? Ask any ridiculous price and you'll have a bidding war. A 2 bedroom, one bath cape sold for $1.3M in my wife's old neighborhood of Thorton Heights in South Portland last month.

NASCAR has always had a huge following, especially in the south. Some people say it's all about the accidents at 220 MPH.

Car of Tomorrow ruined it for me. Inverted fields makes it even worse.

This. Trans Am is the best, IMSA and SCCA next.

Soccer is great.

Baseball has never been great. Except the Yankees suck. That's great.

Yeah. Me too.

I had a friend that raced cars. We set up a small dirt track outside his shop. On Friday's after work, we'd run $25 cars around the track.
I got into an old care and John laced up his helmet and jumped in. One lap around the track and he was screaming! Turns out my motocross racing skills translated to the dirt track very well!

For several years around 1975, I really got into Formula 1. Problem was that U.S. newspapers and television were very sporadic in their coverage unless Mario Andretti was driving in a race. Couldn't fly to Europe or Asia on any given weekend and with the Italians pretty much dominating it, my interest turned more back here.

I watch F1 racing so much better than NASCAR or Indy. There is a young driver for team Mercedes I think he was 17 when the signed him may be 18 now. Kimi Antonelli, kids gonna be fun to watch. But team McClaren are tearing things up right now
