The big problem with the electric chair was that they were using voltage and it wasn't killing people. They never converted it to AMPS.
Half an amp will stop the heart. I have a 30,000 amp short video that shows two guys opening the door to a transformer when it blew. All that was left of them was one half of a shoe. The flash was about twenty thousand (20,000) degrees. That incident was the beginning of high amp clothing for industrial electricians. Like it would have done any good.

My sunroom did not have a finished floor when we moved in, just a rug. This past week we changed that. My first time putting laminate floor down. I had to remove the electrical raceway and outlets first so the flooring could go almost up to the wall. Turned out better than expected considering we bought the cheap stuff. I got the raceway reinstalled last night and am about to do my least favorite part...rewiring the outlets.

Hate electrical.
Curious. Did you leave a quarter inch of space on each wall?

I have been shocked many times.
110 volts is nothing unless you are grounded.
240 volts, pretty much the same.
12kv hurts and can blow your kneecaps of fand burn all your organs
19kv was off a neon sign transformer and it got my attention
The biggie? I got hit by lightning in 1982. That was exciting!
I'll be taking your word for all of that.

Truthfully, I have no issues working with electricity. There are principles at play, follow them and you'll be good. Don't, and you are risking your life. Even if you don't fry yourself - you risk throwing your heart either out of rythm or even stopping it. Have a medical team nearby and you'll live, otherwise you won't.

I was never afraid of electricity. Shock was no big deal.
I took an NFPA 70E class in arc flash safety
I am very lucky to be here. A 20,000 degree plasma ball is nothing to f--- with!
I have seen a room turned copper colored from an arc flash

A "bee suit" will protect you to the level of risk it is designed for

When I began managing construction for the US Government, I became he safety guy.
Electricians used to get mad at me for not letting them work on or near live circuits.
I informed them that only the Base Commander could approve hot work - and he won't.

I'm lucky. I ended up having a mild irregular heartbeat. I need no treatment - but I could just as easily be dead.
Ironically, the unsafe work I performed in ignorance did not hurt me. I was doing nothing wrong when the lightning struck me!

I spent from 1985 until 2013 as a safety or loss control engineer. Had the title never the engineering degree.

Wrote the "Right to Know" program for Digital Equipment Corporation and the Commonwealth of Mass. had to approve it. They liked it so much that they took it to be the guideline for programs submitted for approval. I got a Certified Third Party Trainer certification from the state and then was asked to do training for any state agency that asked. Basically, it was a comprehensive chemical safety program that became a guideline for hazardous waste legislation.

Because of that, OSHA requested that I do training for them and I ended up getting trained in and certified in Electrical, Construction, Heavy Equipment etc. by OSHA. Though I could never get a position with them.

The odd thing was that they called me to co-investigate almost every workplace death in New England, even after I started my own company in 2009.

Safety is a strange world and there are way too many people in it who have never worked it or done anything other than read books or articles about it. Worked with a guy who never left his desk over the twenty years I knew him. He was a CIH/CSP (Certified Industrial Hygienist/Certified Safety Professional) and never once ever looked at anything and yet because of his titles was considered an "expert."

Getting struck by lightning and walking away is a miracle in itself. Usually the best case is a severe exit wound/burn.

I won a lot of awards and bonuses for my safety work.
I shared with very few people that I interacted with about my history.
I wondered sometimes how they would feel if they knew I enjoyed making explosives, racing motorcycles professionally, cliff diving, playing with neon sign transformers, climbing dangerous trees for a living. and worked in high-rise steel construction. I seemed to gravitate towards high risk environments. I snuck into a California prison to fish in their water supply. I think I have been exposed to every hazard known to man.
I'm still here but that is indeed a miracle. Nobody expected me to live past 25. God has been very good to me.

I have a contractor friend that hated - even feared electrical work.
He was plumbing my Raleigh house while I was standing on my bed , hot wiring a ceiling fixture.
He was horrified when I shorted the hot and came running in to find me calmly continuing.
I told him, you get used to it.
He now has an electricians license - and I'm still alive!
It's not the zap I hate. It's the fact that you need tiny hands to work inside the outlet boxes and you either cut the romex too short to make connections easy or you leave it too long and there isn't enough space inside the outlet box for the outlet, wire and wire nuts.

PITA.

And my knees can't take kneeling, even with knee pads. so I have to essentially lay down yet prop myself up, hold the wire, the outlet and the screw driver...

PITA...I hate electrical.

But...DONE!!!!

Yes.

There is an inch wide electrical raceway that runs the perimeter of the room between the outlets. The raceway itself was 1/2" above the floor so I had to take it all off so I could put in the 1/4" spacers and knock the pieces home. Otherwise there would have been a 1" gap all the way around and my fear was,the flooring would come apart.

Sitting here today, nothing going on and noticed that I only had a couple of pairs of ankle socks that weren't beat all to hell or had holes.
Called up Amazon Prime and ordered six pair and then checked to see if they had Krazy Kleen, a toilet sanitizer and cleaner that's guaranteed to clean and sanitize a toilet for ten years. Yep, they had it and I ordered two. One for each toilet. I watch the lady next door's dog when she goes to the hospital for treatment and she gave me an Amazon Gift Card. I checked out and the total was $38.63 with FL tax and the gift card was $30.

Then it came to me that I order at least a couple hundred bucks a month of stuff on line.

Twenty five years ago, I would have driven to a store and bought them in a brick and mortar store or mall. Not any more. And the stuff will be here tomorrow. I wonder how much gasoline I've never used over the past ten years.

My sister in law does her grocery shopping on line at Walmart.

Ever think about how much you use online services? And we wonder why our grandchildren don't know how to converse at a family gathering?

Are we all becoming less interactive??

Technology is not always beneficial for Humanity as it relates to Amazon it's very much a paid convenience. And if I'm being perfectly honest there are things that I can find on Amazon that I can't find in brick and mortar stores. One thing I have done that's important to me is whenever I can I stopped going up Home Depot and Lowe's and started shopping at family owned Ace Hardware Stores prices are very similar and I at least feel like I'm supporting my local community. Has for social activities and children there's a lot of reasons why this is occurring mostly it's lazy adults raising them. Growing up we had Cub Scouts Boy Scouts basketball leagues summer summer leagues for hockey swimming and youth activities those days are gone and we are worse for it.

I find myself at Ace a lot more too. Matter of fact, I'll be headed over to pick up a couple of hangers and concrete screws to put out by the pool so we can hang wet towels instead of draping them on cushioned chairs.

I do most of my grocery shopping at Walmart. What I cant get there I buy in person at Publix.
Once a month, i go to Costco and get a few items I like.
Friday, I bought beer at Publix. I talked with the frozen food worker, there is a young black stocker I have talked with for years. We call each other brother since we are both Christians. I have been looking for a house in North Carolina, since I'd like to move back closer to my kids. I have talked with several real estate agents over the weekend. I talked with my neighbor and friend about insurance issues since he is a retired insurance guy. I also talked with 2 Viet Nam Vets outside Publix about Memorial day.
Nobody has ever said that I am less interactive!
Teach your children well, and teach your children to teach your grandchildren.
It can be as simple as telling them to go talk to somebody......

I think all the time about online shopping and it's effects. Both social and environmental.

Everybody wants there purchase to be delivered RIGHT NOW.
Tomorrow is a PITA. 2 Day Prime is too late. A week is a catastrophe.
What does this do? Forces more goods onto trucks versus trains. Trains cost an average of 5 cents per ton per mile whereas trucks are at least three times that. More fuel used. More wear and tear on the roads, more traffic creates more greater carbon footprint as well as higher demand for fuel keeps fuel prices high. Not to mention denser traffic patterns cause more accidents/deaths/road rage/stress...etc which causes traffic jams which leads to more fuel usage and higher greenhouse gas emissions.

More waste and more waste.

My wife went to Hobby Lobby and Michael's last week looking for graduation party decorations.
Nothing. Sold out? No. Done with that. 4th of July decorations?
No... pumpkins and fall foliage shit. In fucking May.

SERIOUSLY??? WTF people??? No wonder you're going out of business.

It usually takes me a week to complete my Walmart delivery order.
I put items in my cart as I think of them and sometimes I remove them when I order.
Walmart has a delivery staff on hand in my area and they are actively seeking express orders to keep their drivers driving.
My carbon fibre footprint does not change if my order comes tomorrow or a week later.

My wife wants Drumstick ice cream cones. She asks me constantly if I am making an order today.
Typically, I tell her we are not ready for an order.
If I ordered every time she wants a drumstick ice cream cone, that would definitely add to my carbon fiber footprint!
I don't want my carbon fiber footprint to wear out!

I like to think I held out longer than most. Until recently, I was Anti-box stores and definitely anti-Amazon … except when they sold books — I gots a teacher wife . I was a Made in America, mom and pop, mortar and brick, locally-owned & grown patriotic consumer … then, my Bolens lawnmower’s carb gunked up beyond repair (I didn’t know what ethanol could do to the plastic innards of a gas engine) and could only find a replacement online … the sumbitch came before the weekend was over … mowed the lawn on a Sunday.
A week later, the weed mower crapped out. Took it to a small engine repair shop and was told they don’t work on those … so I bought one online from DR Power Equipment … that was delivered to the driveway … and so, I was hooked.
Tent, roof rack, inflatable bed, expandable stairs to get the dog up into the Japanese suv (even though he can easily jump in and out himself - but hey, they get old right? ) all bought in the last week …
I’m now an addict … the local stores are gone, mom & pop retired to Florida, and the local brick & mortar hardware store is now a cannabis dispensary…
I get free next-day prime delivery … and I’m takin’ full advantage before it all goes away … cuz let’s face it, it can’t all last too much longer … tariffs or not … it just ain’t natural

My wife is addicted. She is sitting on the couch right now - ordering something she does not need.
When it comes, I'll throw it in the pile of unopened packages in the other room.
It will sit there until one of us dies. If she goes first, I'll have a garage sale.
If I die first, she can figure out what to do with all her shit before she moves.
I can picture her taking a break from packing and getting on the phone and ordering more shit!

My sister in law was addicted. During the week she died, she ordered shit that my brother has zero idea what it is or what it's for.

He's up in Maine as I type, scattering her ashes on Higgins Beach and Two Lights rocks. Hope he doesn't get caught at the beach. Freaky people up there have a problem walking on the "remains" of dead people. I told him to dump her in the water and wash up on the beach.
