But I completely understand.

We have both, an SUV (Jeep Grand Cherokee) and a sedan (Ford Taurus SHO), besides my company truck.
Weather on the TN/KY border, some snow, lots of freezing rain or ice storms. The AWD/4WD helps. Soccer trips, family trips to VT that kind of thing the SUV is certainly helpful. Otherwise I see your point. I wouldn't drive a Suburban just to have a "bigger than yours" vehicle. SO many people drive F-350 4 doors and never pull or haul anything. Asinine.

The Everest is based on the Ranger. It's about the size of an Explorer with BOF construction and higher ground clearance. A Toyota 4 Runner is a very close comparison. Better off road ability than an Explorer.
Oh I agree the market follows the demand. I think a lot of soccer mom's still wanted to feel cool and relevant and the Mini Van was not satisfying that desire, we as an SUV looked cooler. Shit I would drive a Honda Odessey before I would a Pilot or Passport. When I purchased my Outback I was really wanting a wagon but other than the Euro's hard to find. It drives more like a wagon and less like a Highlander. In the next year or two I will be looking for a sedan, I told my wife the fucking Civic has to go. Great car, great mileage, super reliable, pain in the ass to get in and out of and way to much road noise. None of that bothers her but it does me. She will likely take the Outback, as much as she complains about it being a pimp she loves the damn thing, and loves the turbo she'll get in the tank

Not to be a Debbie Downer but when I was doing research they said the Everest was supposed to release in the States a year ago.

Hopefully it gets released this time.

Small world we used to have a Jeep Cherokee and a Taurus. We test drove many of the comparable SUVs when we bought the Everest. The Everest rode the best, had as good if not better safety features, and the rear seat/storage are was better.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but when I was doing research they said the Everest was supposed to release in the States a year ago.

Hopefully it gets released this time.

The Taurus I also bought cheap. It was a very comfortable car but was in the generation of bad trannies. It would not shift. I sold it to a guy who drove it half a mile to work.

No...seriously...

A lot of people do feel more secure in the bigger SUV's. They can see over the sedans or through the windshields of the trucks/Big SUVs in front of them. It doesn't bother me. I want a midsize SUV for the versatility and a Miata.

I thought you drove an Avalon...?

I thought you drove an Avalon...?
I did at one point have a 2014 Avalon traded that in 2021 for my Outback Limited XT. Which actually drives better than the Avalon did

My sentiment exactly. I got the family but skipped both the minivans and SUVs. I kept an old but very functional pickup. At one point I had three vehicles which were 17, 16 and 11 years old. I maintained them appropriately and they cost little while staying reliable.

Vehicles can be such a cash drain.

Ours is a "Grand Cherokee"
Very comfortable. 5.7 Hemi, it's got some balls too.

But...
Fuel filler hose. Fuel tank. Fuel tank and filler hose. Computer reflash for engine control. Computer reflash for windows and seats. Computer reflash for windows, mirrors and seats. Computer again for Cruise control...that I never use. Complete new HMI...Human/Machine Interface...the stereo/nav/HVAC screen. Complete new dash. Some fuel evap line under the hood (Stealership wanted $500, I did it for less than $40, buying the part from them.
The latest is Compressor for the air springs. Cheap compressors are $200. Factory unit I can buy for $1800. Or anywhere inbetween.
Inside the passenger side fenderwell. A few bolts holds it in, pluss a couple of air line fittings. 30 minutes.
Nope. Proprietary code to deflate the system so the computer can reset the height. Stealership wants $6000+ to do the job. They won't even give me an exact. "Maybe 3.5 hours" Maybe more.

My Taurus, which I bought a couple weeks after the Jeep in 2018, has had nothing but oil, tires and brake pads. Same mileage.

I'd kill for my first car. 1960 Rambler station wagon. Hydramatic transmission. Yep. Push buttons on the dash. Rode smooth as glass and tank of gas lasted a week, no matter how much I drove. Rear seats folded foward and the back was large enough to hold a twin mattress. I gave it up for a 1960 Chevy Impala SS. Ever had your girlfriend's mother open the door while you and her about to reach the place that no science book ever tells you about. And the mother says the most stupid thing possible. "What do you think you're doing?" Gotta love them full front bench seats.

I traded our Cherokee for a year-old ford freestyle wagon in 2008 and just got rid of it last year. It had no more personality to it than a mini van but turned into my favorite vehicle . I see one once in awhile and it still looks better than any suv including the infinity qx60 I replaced it with … I hate new cars

Mine was a 46 Plymouth with tuck and roll leather backseat (couch) It was stolen by the chief of police in my home town.

When he retired some years later, he bought a brand new F350 and big trailer and headed off to retirement.
He made it 10 miles out of town and rolled it off a steep grade. The celebration was epic! I thre a kegger and even invited the cops to the celebration. They came by and waved but did not come in.
