My brother has several MD friends in Chatanooga who have been trying to get their patients not to use plastic for years. One of them has spent the past twenty researching the effects of plastic on the human body. He has written and claims that there are millions of pounds of microscopic plastic in the air from burning, microwaving and melting. He says that all generations from the Baby Boomers to infants born next year are and will be affected. Lungs, intestines, liver, kidneys are all affected and we have no direct knowledge of exactly what it's doing other than it's inetrferring with normal absorption and flow of liquids within the body. He laughs and says, we have begun to line our innards with plastic and wonder why desease is so prevalent and difficult to treat.
Well I for one will get away from it. I already have a fair amount of Pyrex and will certainly purchase more. I cannot protect the world but I can protect myself

My wife hates plastic. We have one cupboard dedicated to Pyrex and Mexican glass another for drinking glassware. We did break down and buy plastic cups for use around the new pool. Can't be having people dropping Manhattans on the pool deck and then having to drain the pool to be sure that there are chunks of glass hiding on the bottom.

It appears that way, and as long as I remove the plastic lid on the Pyrex it should be fine. I may have to find something to cover the glass tray while cooking but I will look into that
Amazon sells splatter shields. As long as your food is not in contact with the plastic, you're good.

Water bottles are the worst.

There are plenty of "near plastic" options made from silicon. My freezer bags are made of that and are way more durable. If I need plastic anything I now look for silicon. (No need to chime in @cheerupcharlie , we already no what you are thinking)

Silicone is more durable than plastic, and it doesn't break down into microplastics.
  • Silicone: Silicone is non-toxic, BPA-free, and doesn't leach harmful chemicals. It's ideal for food-grade applications.
  • Plastic: Some plastics can release toxins when exposed to heat or wear.

I actually found a glass splatter guard with silicone handle at Amazon
