BTW: P. Manning is nowhere near the best...........asterisks next to all records that he owns because of rule changes.

Pretty ridiculous statement that could be said about a lot of modern athletes in all sports. Using your logic - just about any skill player in the modern era should be discounted because of rule changes. That includes Megatron, AP, Brady, Rodgers & several players who recently retired.

Manning is among the best not because of records but because of his influence on the game & his ability to always have his offense & team among the best. The only thing missing is numerous SB rings & that might be taken care to a large degree in less than two weeks. Again - your hatred is causing you to not think straight.

Basically he did his job. There are plays like that every week in the NFL. The only thing that made it special was the game situation and that making the play put his team in the Super Bowl. IM not going to kiss his ass for him being in position, jumping up and defending a pass which is what he is supposed to do in that situation. I just think that the Deions and Shermans of the world cheapen the game.

So, when a QB raises both arms or fist pumps, a WR spikes or spins the ball, a RB poses or makes some celebratory motion, A DL postures when getting a sack or stopping the runner from getting a first down.....etc. etc. etc. They are just doing their jobs as well right??? DB defend passes unlike every other position on the field THEY should be satisfied with that.

Hey, here's an idea, let's lobotomize them all and completely take the emotion out of the game.

Be careful - during one of those seasons a team full of Redskins scrubs off the street beat a Cowboys team that had several high profile starters on the roster - pretty embarrassing. Beyond that - those Skins teams were very good - especially the one that destroyed the Broncos.

my response had nothing to do with the cowboys and everything to do with the off the wall statement of Manning. I thought Sharks comeback was a pretty good point

So then we should celebrate and encourage this kind of behavior?? If its wrong, its wrong. I dont care how many people do it. Acceptance of it just makes it worse. And honestly are you going to put an asterisk by two of the Skins Super Bowl trophy's because they came in strike years?? Manning plays with the rules in front of him, he hasnt bent them in word or deed. And if it were so easy because of the rules favoring him, why doesnt every QB throw for 50+ TDs in a season??

Next you will be telling me we should pick up Incognito.

Listen if our team had killers on them and they won, few would care. BTW Washington played under rules far different than what exists in todays game when they won those two SBs. Those rule changes came as a DIRECT result of P. Manning and family complaining about the tight coverage being employed against his team in a playoff game against NE. I believe that it was either the 2004, 05, or 06 season.

QBs don't have to throw for 50+ TD per season to know that these rule changes completely aided them in setting records. The number of record games, and statistical numbers since these changes cannot be questioned. Sooner or later with continued rule changes 50+ TDs per season WILL be the norm.

Incognito???? Really??? Someone saw fit to employ him in the NFL AND thought him to be a tough guy on the field.......guess that evaluation did not include his use of language. He'll probably be permanently outcast now, but there is a difference between when, where and what he said/did and what Richard Sherman did or said. Wonder why Sherman will still be playing and Incognito won't??? My best guess....people have no heart to deal with what is........and are only agreeable to what's supposed to be....based on whatever nutty standards they make those suppositions.

I don't hate Manning at all, he's probably a pretty good guy....Hell the man sell pizzas for goodness sake. What I do hate are all of the changes to what once was a great game. One where defense was exactly that not the watered down version played in the game today.

Yes an asterisk next to all of those that you've mentioned......with the possible exception going to AP. As a RB he still has to run into and beyond the lines, Passing game players all get asterisks!!!!

Fair enough. However - you need to go beyond passing records. Even backs benefit since current O-lineman pretty much get away with murder & defenses have to even be careful about how they tackle running backs (& to a degree the running game is opened up by the passing game).

Again - this could apply to a lot of other sports (e.g baseball - with designated hitter). It is all part of the evolution of sports - for better or worse. You don't qualify the records (i.e. follow them with an asterisk) unless there is blatant cheating (e.g. steroids in baseball). If we go your route there will need to be like 10+ different sets of records!

You bring up a good pt. that was echoed by Madden recently. Kids mimic whatever they see on TV. They most likely won't see the trash talk on the field but will see this type of interview numerous times in the media. The results could spill down into high school, pee-wee games, etc & get very ugly. Food for thought. I still believe that Sherman is smart enough to realize that he should not continue to behave in this manner & will change his ways over time.

Just curious......was it his fault for saying it or the medias fault for covering it??? Which has the greater responsibility to the public and those kids that some believe we should coddle?

Point taken.......... my possible exception to AP is partially revoked....Thanks!!!

Again point taken........the exception being with other sports the changes have not had nearly the dramatic change as to how the game is played in relation to those made in football.

I'm not adverse to having differing sets of records, in fact I would welcome a sectioning of theHOF to indicate that and to also put into perspective what great means to those of us who saw it then and for those who sees it now.

Did anyone see the NFL film on Jerry Smith??? There probably a thread on that but my question has to do with something Calvin Hill said. He stated with great assurance that had the current rule changes been in place when Jerry Smith played his 60 TDs would have been 111 or better, a mark held by T. Gonzalez.

Emotion in the game is fine. Celebrating when you take a cheap shot on a guy is not. Talking trash on how you shut a guy down by holding, pulling face masks or simply being the best because you had the better grade PED is not.

Dude, Im not saying you coddle kids. But seriously if some one is in a position to influence kids, used to be at least you had a civic responsibility to act in a certain way and NOT be a negative influence. In todays society, if you cant control your emotions, its in your best interest to stay away from the cameras, not seek them out to look like an ass.

guess that's in the eye of the beholder. This reminds me when the DE headslap was outlawed or the mugging down the field done on the receivers as long as the ball wasn't in the air. That too must be a Manning family power play as well.

It just seems to me that when a player is caught up in his emotion when the moment calls for exactly that. I'm sure that there were others who were cursing and acting outside of their public selves. Sherman had just made the play of the game for his team the cameras wanted his reaction and got it. Now we're all supposed to be appalled because of a perceived cultural standard??? If that cultural standard was in effect for Sherman then the media who originally and now constantly replay it has to meet that same standard that is all I'm saying.

There's a lot of crap on TV, broadcast and cable/satellite a lot of it reality type stuff...........well welcome to the world of the ORIGINAL reality programming...........Sports!!!!
