Dick Tracy.

Warren Beatty and Madonna play themselves in a noir for kids while everyone else seems to be having more fun. I'm surprised at how good the movie still looks and sounds. Pacino still had a lot of energy for the role. It clearly took some things from Batman 89.

Coincidentally, I recently watched a colorized version of the 1945 release of Dick Tracy; found it rather forgettable.

Another movie I found on archive.org, Seven Thieves (1960) was much more entertaining.

Edward G. Robinson recruits six other people to help him with an elaborate plan to rob a casino.
The supporting cast includes an act that plays at the casino nightclub - a sax player (Eli Wallach) and exotic dancer (Joan Collins)

Every Night Is Saturday Night - The Bobby Keys Story

12/10

What a sax man.

I never knew he was born the same day as Keith Richards.

Where did you see it? I'll watch anything Stones-related.

Elvis …. I hated it, was annoying with the constant scene switching and artistic style they used, and it didn’t really allow you to learn about Elvis’s life, it was just blah… I was expecting something similar to the Johnny cash movie with Joaquin and Reese Witherspoon, kinda go over his childhood and life etc… Missed opportunity if you ask me …

Triangle of Sadness.

Not enough of Woody. His part of the movie was the best.

I watched the rest of Elvis. I can't for the life of me figure out what the fuss is about or why in god's name Austin Butler is even nominated, much less the Oscar favorite. The last 15 minutes or so as fat and dying Elvis was the only time I bought him as Elvis and I think the fat suit and makeup did a lot of the heavy lifting there.

I think a big part of it is his appearance, which was so important to Elvis' success. Elvis, in addition to the singing and moves, was simply a strikingly beautiful human being who exuded danger and leering sexuality on stage. Austin Butler just doesn't have that in him... he's a cute kid, but I kept getting a "Saved By The Bell" vibe from him... too much jumping around in time and place with scenes, too. I'm a sucker for bio-pics, though, so 6/10.. but that's a stretch.

I knew I was skipping that as soon as I saw "Baz Luhrmann's"

Everything Everywhere All At Once could sweep all the awards and I wouldn't be upset. Throw Maverick a bone with some technical award.

Last one I watched was You People (Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy). It was OK, but the racial stereotypes were leaned into HARD and it became pretty cringey in several spots.

The promos looked ok, but I read it's crap. I was going to have a look just to see how they dealt with it, given my experiences irl with the situations explored. Maybe I still will.

While it wasn’t as good as the original, I didn’t really mind the remake of BNB.

The remake just doesn't feel right after seeing the original. The original has kids that feel age appropriate and real. The remake has actors that don't feel like real kids at all (a critique I have for a lot of movies with child actors).

That said, the original 3 got worse with each one.

Metal Lords (Netflix)

Somewhat typical teen outcast movie (except the “good guys” are actually portrayed as being the instigators in some of the situations where they got bullied, which was an interesting REAL take on the world).

The sound track is fantastic. Not surprising seeing as Tom Morello was the primary producer behind getting the movie made. It was a bit hard to fathom these 3 kids playing at the level they did in the movie, but that is movie magic. If they portrayed true HS level instrumentals, the movie would not have worked, so you gotta just suspend your disbelief on that part. It also featured an original song that felt real. Again, not too surprising as it was written by Morello.

6.5/10. Maybe a higher rank BECAUSE of the soundtrack.
