Wedding Daze (2006)

I love Isla Fisher. She is so beautiful. Jason Biggs has always been hilarious. With that being said this movie really bad. Terrible plot. Just goofy.

Just watched There Will Be Blood for the first time, pretty good. Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano are excellent. Writing is good, story was okay. Greed is a son-of-a-bitch

8/10.

Been doing a James Bond Marathon the last week or so. Got up to Man With the Golden Gun last night. To be honest, these movies do not age that well. The effects are HORRIBLE and Bond is a straight up rapist (I am thinking primarily the chiropractor).

So far, Golden Gun, Goldfinger and Her Majesties Secret Service are at the top while Live and Let Die is the clear worst (GREAT song, but horrible execution of it throughout, and it just doesn’t have the “bond” feel)

Even though Goldfinger was a good flick, it had probably the biggest plot hole in all the movies. Goldfinger tells his plan to all the mobsters in order to convince them to participate. One refuses and leaves, the others agree and stay. Goldfinger kills the one who left (understandable, you can’t have him out there knowing the plans). But he also kills all the ones who agreed to help, right after the presentation. Um... why?

Also, too bad they dropped Blofeld for 35 years. I understand the legalities behind it, but after Her Majesties Secret Service, his omission was quite blaring.

I understand each is supposed to be essentially stand alone and even the timeline is intentionally vague, but I wish there was more continuity. Again, especially after Her Majesties Secret Service.

Not to be a pain in the butt but they were there to be paid for services already delivered. i.e. he already had what he needed from them.

Goldfinger killed them to avoid payment of his gold.

Just Mercy 2019....not sure if it has been talked about.

A young lawyer, Michael B. Jordon, takes on a case of a falsely accused murderer, Jamie Foxx, on death row. True story. Really liked this movie, especially the way the death row prisoners stuck together.

Highlander II (original version)

I hadn’t seen this probably 30 years. I remember not liking it when I saw it before. And I am well aware that everyone involved with it has pretty much disowned it.

And with that, it still is not as GOOD as its reputation would indicate. OMG, that has to be one of the absolute worst movies ever made. It was so bad, however, that it almost lapped around into being pretty decent. I kept laughing because I realized that these takes from the actors were the the best takes they had to work with. And the dialogue writing presumably was read by multiple people before it was handed to the actors to actually read. And the concept was actually green lit be enough people to get funding, theater space, and a pretty decent cast.

I don’t understand how ANY of those hurdles were cleared, let alone all of them.

EASY 0/10. But almost watchable because it really is THAT bad.

Best documentary ever

12 Strong (2018)

Another exaggerative & sensationalized military film... Patriotism at its finest. I'm sure there is plenty of truth to it, but there were far too many "hollywood moments" for me to believe the credibility of this film. Talking of the climactic scene where they gallantly ride on horses into waves of assault rifles, tanks & APCs... And only the supporting Afghan militia suffered casualties? C'mon... I have never read the book Horse Soldiers to know the real accounts of these battles, but its not hard to imagine these producers embellished the hell out of it. I'd be interested to hear from someone that has read the book & seen this movie.

Regardless... I wish it had taken the source material a tad more seriously. Could have used more brutal realism (Saving Private Ryan, The Hurt Locker) in terms of mood and dialog.

But in terms of popcorn entertainment, and a dumbed down version of the preliminary war in Afghanistan... It was an entertaining film worth watching. Just don't digest this film as your only education on the historical events of the war.

Bottom of the 9th - I saw this on Amazon Prime and figured I'd give it a shot since it had a couple of people I knew in it (Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara). Nothing really to the plot and very predictable. 2 out of 5 stars

Birds of Prey: And the blah blah blah (2020)

Just awful. Not even worth talking about, other than to point out how bad it was in hopes that others avoid it. Where's @BigDGarciaFan at when you need him.

Agreed. It was almost as bad as the all female Ghost Busters. I couldnt even finish that one.

Thankfully I never even tried to watch that.

Birds of Prey just sucked all around. The only scene that I liked was when Harley stormed the police department with that "fun gun" or whatever it was called. That scene was the only thing memorable about the entire movie. Everything else was garbage.

I like the ones that are more about spys and stuff and less about awesome gadgets (although clearly those can be fun)

So the early ones and those like Casino Royale are the ones I like the most.

The fight scene in From Russia with Love on the Orient Express is one of my favorites, although many versions of the film cut most of it out and ruin a great fight. It's too bad

Disney's Onward
Watched it with the kids, I was slightly worried going in from the things I heard and read, but A) its pretty decent and B) the political stuff is minuscule.

All in all, pretty good and pretty sad actually.

My favorite fight scene occurs early in one of my favorite Bond movies, Never Say Never Again. That should be on the "must see" list for any guy in his early 50's, around the same age Connery was when he made that film.

My favorite gadget would probably be the remote control car. I'm pretty sure that was in The World is Not Enough, the last movie for the original "Q", Desmond Llewelyn.

Thats the one with Kim Basinger?

THAT I remember.

The Aston Martin in Goldfinger is still my favorite.

Just watched both Casino Royales last night. I had never seen the original, believe it or not.

the original is what it is. No need to comment on that.

the remake was a GREAT flick. Probably the best Bond to date. A BIT to dark for the series, but it tightens up the absolute craziness it got to at times. One “complaint” I have is that they intended it as a reboot, but they kept Dench on as M. I understand that continuity is more of an afterthought in these movies, but resetting everything while keeping Dench in one of the actual anchor roles was too jarring for my tastes. M and Q were exempt from the recasts since the beginning, so they both had a kind of anchor feel to them. Felix, Moneypenny and Blofeld all got constantly recast, so changing them around was no prob. But M (Robert Brown to Judy Dench) actually acknowledged the switch. They played two distinct people. When Dench’s M came on board, she and Bond clashed. They acknowledged Bond had been around forever and had a history with the previous M. Now Dench is the “old guard” bringing Bond into the fold. Too jarring. Even for this franchise.

that said, I know that is MY hang up. And it is still a solid flick.

And the exchange between M and Bond, when Bond says he is surprised that “M” actually had meaning...

they explained the meaning of the “M” and “Q” names very early in the series. “M” is for “Minister” and “Q” is for “Quartermaster”. Now that is scrapped, I guess...

A League Of Their Own (1992)

Some cute scenes, entertaining, better than average overall. Hanks and Geena Davis were the leads, but I thought Madonna was the best actor in this movie.
